@LaughLines: ah yeah that would be worrisome, surprised that the smell lasted that long!

@DesertDreams88: I did air them out for 3 weeks and still were stinky. I even checked the ones in store in case i just got bad ones. Smelled kind of like wet paint... really chemically. Don't want that going in my kids mouths! ew!
@Littlebit7: I love wooden ones but they're usually more expensive... we have some as parts of puzzles though
@Mama Bird: I think i'm going to get these! They're not as "realistic" but they're cute and have good reviews (and no one mentions smell)

Thanks for everyone's help!

The Little People animals seem fine, no smell right out of the box.

Playmobil? I've never noticed a smell. There are small parts though in most sets so keep that in mind.

ETA: what about wooden animals?

not to be unhelpful, but couldn't you just let them air out? most plastic smell is just from being trapped in a bag/package, methinks....

My son (and I!) love the Schleich animals. They don’t smell, in my opinion, but they are pretty pricey.

My younger brother was obsessed with animals and we had lots of Scleich brand animals. My mom still has a bunch of them and LO plays with them. No idea if they smell though!

My 2.5 year old dd asked for "all the animals" for Christmas. So I thought I'd get her a set of plastic animals. I ordered a set from Target that I liked because they weren't mini so I don't have to worry about choking hazard for the younger babies since I'm pregnant. However, when they came they smelled SO bad. Chemical smell. So I returned them (and checked the ones in store which smelled also)

Does anyone have plastic animals that don't smell? I don't want to keep ordering/returning different brands.
