Ah, balloons are always a big hit! We had ages 1-7 and gave balloons as favors and they were fighting over them....such an easy, cheap "toy"!

@photojane: Under 3...that is tougher. Could you bring your baby gate and gate off and area and fill it with toys they can all play with?

Going to do a party post soon, but we had LDs first bday at a library. We brought a rug and quilt and later it down. Also brought a large basket with books and toys to set in the middle. Topped it off by blowing up some balloons. The babies and little ones seemed to do great!

@Smurfette: The ages of the kids is so all over the place at Sadie's party that I'm not sure at all what to do! Most of the little ones are under 3, so I'm not sure if a craft/activity would even be possible...?

We just transitioned a spare bedroom into a playroom and it was seriously the best decision ever. All the kids and toys were contained in there and it left the rest of the house for the adults! I like the idea of a ball pit and then maybe set up a small area of little people toys? We have a long hallway that the kids used for ride on toys as well. Also, maybe have a Disney movie or something playing so they can have the option of chilling out/taking a break!

@Smurfette: at 10 I would still have loved to use those bug sheets of paper and draw outlines of myself then color myself in. Photo area with props could entertain them.

I am wondering about this too. We are just inviting family due to numbers, but that is still 10+ kids under the age of 10. Mostly 3-7 range. I thought about doing some kind of craft they can take home. Or have them decorate cookies, but that won't take long.

Low tables with crayons and coloring sheets
Building blocks/ Legos, use an activity mat to "corner" off the area
Water Table/ other sensory play activity
Activity cube

I'm wondering if I should set up a little play area to occupy the kids at Sadie's first birthday. A lot of the Pinterest parties I've pinned have something set up for the little ones, so I'm thinking it might be useful. The party will be in a banquet-type room at my parents' church, so there isn't anything already there - just a big square room.

Did you have a play area for the kids at your LO's first birthday party? What type of toys/activities did you include? I'd love to see pics if you have them!
