It's normal. All our storytimes "wash" and "sanitize" the toys after each session.

I don't think it's rude! Almost all babies excessively drool and teeth on toys. When I do play dates with my friend with a 16 month old LO, he mouths all over her toys, and I'm pretty sure my friend doesn't even wipe them down (partly because her DD is in a "mine!" phase, and grabs the toys from LO and stashes them in their playroom, haha). When they come over here, I just wipe down anything that has been drooled/chewed on.

Also, when we do Gymboree class, toys/play balls always end up getting swapped between babies. I try to keep track of which one he was chewing on, but not always successful. Nobody brings sick kids to class, and hey, germs are good for their immunity, right? ;)

The way you're doing it is pretty much how things are for us. I think parents know that kids that age are going to put things in their mouths. Same goes for story times, etc. Hopefully people keep their kids home if they are sick.

Just curious, what do you think is the etiquette with toys and play dates? LO is 6 months old and we have weekly playdates with a group of moms and babies the same age. Whoever is hosting puts out a bunch of toys, and some of the moms will usually bring a few toys and throw them out there as well.

At 6 months, babies pretty much play by putting everything directly into their mouths. Since we all know each other pretty well, no one seems to care about the toys going into all the mouths-- obviously if any of the babies were sick they either wouldn't come or would be super careful not to let them share their germs.

Is that the norm? Is it rude to let your baby put a toy that isn't hers in her mouth? What about at places like library story time and stuff? We were talking about it at our playdate since we are all FTMs and unsure of what you are 'supposed' to do.

FWIW I wiped all of our toys down before our friends came over and again after, and only put out the easy to wipe down ones.
