My nephew who is 20 months has lots of the food from Hape. It's mostly wooden, so maybe not what you're looking for. It does say ages 3+ but the stuff is so cute. Like this set to make crepes!

We like Ikea felt food sets. She's in a throwing phase right now and I'm glad I didn't buy wooden food.

@looch: That's geeeenius! My LO is always try to play with things like empty milk containers (the big plastic gallon jugs) and empty boxes. I can't believe I didn't think about that! /facepalm

Love Ikea felt food. At that age I hid the M&D wood food because she would bite chunks off and the paint would peel. I have a ton of plastic food I got from a resale group. Love those because I wash in HOT soapy water!

We also have felt food and she loves it. I can't remember the brand but I found them on Amazon and they even come in a felt grocery bag.

ETA - this is the one we have:

A lot of the melissa and doug sets do have smaller pieces. My only other thoughts with wood food would be if they chew on it to make sure the paint doesn't come off.

I got a great deal on a used play kitchen at a resale store ($11, plus I'll spend about $40 on the essential parts it's missing, reg $150) The kitchen is currently at my parents' house. It may end up staying there as a special "Grandma and Grandpa's house" toy. IDK yet.

Anyway, I don't have any food yet. LO is almost 16 months. I'm not in a rush to get food, but I have been thinking about it. A lot of the food is recommended 3 yrs and up. I know there are plenty of moms here who have gotten play kitchens for LOs under 2 yrs. So, what play food do you have?
