I made a similar post and from the responses, it seems like kids don't really have a preference and will play with whatever's available.

I ended up going with felt, crocheted, and plastic. My LO goes nuts with throwing things around and it just less destructive. It also packs up a lot easier - I'm pretty happy with my decision. However, I'll probably add a few wooden peices later down the road.

We have a little of everything. No issues with the paint on wood yet... I got it in the target dollar section.

@zippylef: I will personally go plastic. M chews on EVERYTHING!!! Paper or paint comes off the wood ones.

We have the M&D wood food and I wish I had plastic. The paint flakes off pretty easily, and if your LO bangs it into a wall or the floor, sometimes it will leave a lovely streak of whatever color it is there. Ugh. My main complaint is the red pots -- if your heart is set on the wood food I'd at least steer clear of those.

I was doing some early Christmas research. My dad and I are going to build C a play kitchen. I was debating about food. The Melissa and Doug food sets are SO CUTE. I like the idea of wood food, I guess thinking it would be more durable?

Is wooden food worth the extra cost? What did you buy?
