Thanks everyone!

I love the play kitchens on pinterest, the ones that are hacked from old furniture, but I need to be realistic about both my abilities and time! If I had all the time in the world and a cool piece of furniture, I'd totally DIY.

The land of nod has pieces on sale for less than $100 each, I might go for the stove and fridge and call it done. I like that they're not too overdone, just give the idea of being a kitchen.

@808love: the LO has that at daycare! Super cute. We have the whole fruits at home. I am cool with plastic. I just saw that @looch is looking for wood so I pointed that out for her.

@Andrea: I totally want that M&D slicing fruit set to go with our kitchen. (Yah, too bad ours is cost-friendly plastic...but it's super nice looking plastic!!)

We have this one:

http://www.amazon.com/KidKraft-53173-Red-Retro-Kitchen/dp/B0030HBVG2/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I got it when she was 8 months old even though it says for ages 3 and up. She started cruising at 7 months so I felt like she would enjoy cruising along the kitchen. I think there are other kitchens with cooler features but this is not plastic and the red vibrant color is great. We bought some Melissa & Doug fruits and vegetables along with a pot and pan set to use in the kitchen.

Huh..I don't want plastic, I would prefer something wooden. WRT the small parts...I am concerned about those as well, which leads me to think I might construct something myself when the time comes. I would like to see what he does around his cousin's play kitchen.

We have the Land of Nod play kitchen... Simple design... a bit pricey, but constructed well... hasn't broken on us yet (had it for 2 years now)... looks nice... LO loves it.

We just built ours yesterday and we can see LO having a blast for years to come! I think this model is really great for the cost(good reviews). It's Step2 Custom. Grandma got it on sale for $60 or 70 Amazon but it can go up to $100.

ETA My favorite part is when you put the little pan on the stove burner, it lights up red and makes a sizzling sound. More than enough for LO to do and built it easily in half hour. It comes with a bunch of dishes, so just have to add play food.

My lo is too young for a kitchen. But I was looking into them for her first birthday and most said that they were for ages 3 and up because they have small parts.

What kind of play kitchen do you have? I am thinking of getting something for my son, not sure which direction to go in. He's 13 months and walking, so he could def. use it.
