I love having a dedicated play room! So nice not having her toys in other areas of the house Before kids we had the formal living and dining rooms but since transitioned them to LO's play room. I love that she has her space in the house to play with her friends and with us. And it's easy for me to get stuff done having her down on the main floor with me. Also, now that she's older she plays there with her little friends and the moms can all relax and visit on the couch or at the kitchen table.

ETA: here are some photos

We did when we only had 2 kids...we probably won't ever have a play room again now that we have 3 and 1 on the way!

It's okay though. We have some decent storage and our playroom felt kind of wasteful.

I wish! Toys are mostly in our living room and we need a better system to keeping them organized. I wish we had a basement or somewhere that DD (and DS when he's big enough) could make a mess of without stressing me out!

No we don't. Honestly, I don't think it would get used. We have an open floor plan, so it's convenient to have toys in the living room or the family room. They have "homes"/storage solutions in those areas. Then we can get things done in other adjoining rooms while they play.

Nope. Our house has two good sized bedrooms and one box room (will be the nursery), so no room for a playroom, guest room, office or any other room. We've kitted E's bedroom out pretty well though, so she is not missing out.

We converted half our garage into a playroom. It actually looks pretty awesome. We even built a reading nook/stage/ball pit (cushion comes off to make it a stage, floor comes off to reveal a ball pit.) I'll have to remember to take pictures in the morning.

I wish we had one! We live in an apartment, so there's no extra space. I hate when his toys end up on the living room. He has a good sized bedroom, so all his toys live in there. But he likes to bring them to the common living spaces to play since that's where we always are

Our living room is essentially their play room. I'm fine with it. I mean half the people in the house are under the age of 5 so it's fine. I have the rest of my life to have an "adult" living space.

We have one and it really only gets used when other kids are over. He's really only interested in independently playing with a handful of toys, and they just move around the house to wherever he is at the moment. But it's great when there are other kids over.

@Bao: I mean, I guess 75% of their toys live in the family room. So in a way that is their "play room"? But they also have a play area upstairs which is dedicated more for arts & crafts. And their dollhouse lives in the spare bedroom because I think that way there's the least chance of pieces going missing.

We are pretty clean and organized people and I can't imagine a scenario where ALL their toys actually stay in one space all the time!

@runnerd: thanks! With the exception of the flooring and the new rug, we were able to repurpose a lot of items from other areas of the house, so it came together pretty affordably. Unfortunately it's not well insulated so it gets pretty chilly during the winter, but that hasn't been an issue so far this season :silly:

We try to keep most of his toys in the den off of the kitchen. We don't have a formal living room- just a large family room in the front of the house and toys end up there too. I want to finish the basement so badly- it's already 70% finished but we've spent so much money this year.

We just turned an unfinished bedroom in the basement into a gross motor play room (trampoline and big toys). We will finish our bonus room in 2016 and turn that into a regular play room. For now, all the toys are in the living room and it's crazy! DD1 can't have toys in her room or she will never go to sleep.

We have a small playroom downstairs and a game room upstairs. When they're older and need less direct supervision, I'll turn the downstairs room into a study/computer/game space and the upstairs will be their space. @Smurfette: ours is a similar setup. It's technically an office with French doors. It's right off of our kitchen/breakfast room/family room.

We have set up our loft upstairs as a play room. it is really just an open area in between two bedrooms. We have recently removed a couch from the room and now she loves it (it really opened it up). I'm going to move two bookcases into it to store her toys. Currently it has a play table, a princess tent, a dress-up box, easel, a lazy-boy recliner (that I regret because it is so huge) and a bookcase on the side wall.
