My LO didn't use the playmat one she sat up really well unassisted and played with toys that I put around her...I had bought some super-fancy play mat that was supposed to grow with baby, and I thought how dumb I was so many times bc once she was sitting she used it less and less, and she started sitting herself up on her own at around 6 months so she was never lying on her back anymore.

My LO also fell in love with the jumperoo super early, like 3 or 4 months, and she definitely loved the Fisher Price learning table with removable legs. She would sit and play with it before she could stand and she loved it forever:)

@runnerd: We used ours daily until she started sitting well and crawling. Then we used an activity table like previous posters - and just took the legs off.

If I had to do it again I think I might get one of these - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AJSJE6O?pc_redir=1412322758&robot_redir=1

It's a play mat, an excersaucer, and later they can sit at it or pull with it and stand and play. Our jumperoo was great but this would've lasted longer.

@runnerd: we got a kick and play for Christmas he was 3.5 months and he still loves it at 12.5 months. It's downstairs so he only sees it 1 or 2 a week but he'll always crawl right to it and pull on the toys and play with the piano.

Dd loved the mat but by 5 months she didn't use it much (once she could roll). I would suggest a jumperoo (she started at 4 months and used it up until almost 11 months) or the activity table with no legs!

@T.H.O.U.: I was going to suggest the same- an activity table that you can remove the legs. C actually tolerated tummy time when I put the music table flat on the floor in front of her.

You can also change up the toys dangling from the bars above the play mat.

I would wait. By 4-6 months they start sitting up and can use all different toys. I would invest in an activity table with removable legs. This website has a good review.

We had this for Chloe

We couldn't use it until she was sitting well on her own & holdin her head steady, so closer to four months (the toy is recommended for 3+), but she LOVED it.

We used this for well over a year. The seat can be removed once baby is standing.

@runnerd: we have the FP kick one. She only used it as a mat till about 5 months. But once she was sitting up, she could sit and play with the keyboard. But she wasn't into it cause she was starting to crawl so we didn't get as much life out of it as I thought we would.

My DS enjoyed his playmat until he learned to sit up (6mo for him). At that point he was no longer really interested in lying on his back. We only ever had one as space was an issue, but I did end up getting a few more toys to hang on it.
I got one of those bouncers that hangs on a door frame (I think similar to a jumperoo), and he started to go in that about 3mo and adored it. He still goes in it now occasionally at 9.5mo! Also once he started to try sitting up I got him one of those big fabric rubber rings (a play nest?) so he could sit up and play safely if I needed to do something.
Now he's crawling and can escape the rubber ring I have no safe place to put him!

My dd didn't use hers much past 3 months. Next we went to a jumparoo, which she loved until she figured out how to crawl! Now all she wants to do is crawl and pull herself up on things! I would invest in other small toys or a jumparoo before i would get another playmat. Infantino makes some great small toys that my DD loves. Her favorite is the noodle teether.

F will be 3mo in a little over a week. he loves his playmat. I started thinking about getting him a second one for variety (specifically the fisher price one with kick n play piano cause he loves kicking.)

1. how long did your baby use their playmat?
2. did you have more than one or worry baby needed more variety?
3. if he's too close to outgrowing, what would you buy instead that he could start to use by 4mo?
