@SLR: I know when I got close to the end of my goal of a year I was able to drop down to twice a day. Also, my LO was eating a lot of solids at that point, so if she was short an ounce it wasn't a big deal.

Good luck!

Hopefully you can schedule it so you can take 2 pumping breaks and use your lunch as a third.

I would email the other moms and say you're trying to get a feel for how long they need the room. You should all be working as a team and supporting each other. Look at these women as a valuable resource.

@SLR: I'd pump in the mothers room if at all possible. Its easier to use a mothers room to clean parts and store milk. I think it would be awkward to pump in your office given that you have a frosted glass wall and you're in a high traffic area.

Pumping 3 times a day may be ideal, but its really hard to pump 3 times a day at work. As a WOHM, I pumped twice at work and once before bed, which worked for me. The person using the room once a day may be in the weaning process, which means another spot in the mothers room may open up.

If you know who is using the mothers room, you could also email them to let them know you'll be returning from leave and using the mothers room too.

Thanks for the input! At home, I nurse every two hours and she takes one side per session (if that makes a difference in how often I'd need to pump?). I've always heard that 3x/day is best and was kind of surprised that the other two ladies using the room are doing it just twice a day (and another one is 1x/day).

The room isn't booked for a specific length of time. There is just a written schedule hanging in the room. I'd guess that everyone would need only a half hour, assuming they are prompt at going at their respective time slot.

I wouldn't care so much about pumping in my office, but it's in a fairly high traffic area and I work with several guys (well into their 30's+) that are way too immature for their age. And it would make it so much easier, at least for some days, because I may not be able to do the same time each day depending on meetings and such. I'd still probably want to go down to the mothers room after to put the pump parts and milk in the fridge.

My initial thoughts are 8, 12, and 2 or 8:30, 12:30, 2:30. For the first couple times maybe try using the mothers room just so you get your routine down and get more comfortable with all the gear and then once you get the hang of things, pump in your office. Just lock the door, dim the lights, and get on with your bad self. Could you put a lamp near your desk so you still have some light to work with? Also, you could put a sign on your door that says "privacy please".

Just curious, is the room scheduled for half hour blocks or full hour blocks? We had about 6 women sharing a pumping room and we did half hour blocks and it always worked out fine.

I nursed at daycare so she was full when I dropped her off and less pumping. However, if you nurse/pump at 6 am, you will be ready to pump by 8:30-8:45. I don't think I could go (and maintain a good supply) with going from 6 am - 9:45 am (over 3.5 hrs).

6 am - Nurse/pump
8:30-8:45 - Pump #1
11:30 Pump #2
2:30 Pump #3
5:30 Nurse at home

That puts you at every three hours.

I would use your office. I work about the same hours you do and I pump at about 9, 12 and 3. I also make sure daycare doesn't feed M past 3 so we're on the same schedule. If I were in your shoes, I would put a cover on, lock your door and pump. I covered the windows in my office with computer paper. Tacky, but effective. :)

I would pump in my own office if that was a possibility too... Is there a possibility you could put curtains or blinds up? Otherwise if you use the pumping room I would also suggest the same schedule as MrsJazz. You'll really want to try to pump 3x while you're at work to keep your supply up.

@SLR: I would honestly just use my own office if I had one!

If you are more comfortable using the mother's room, what amount of time are you allowed in the room? I would say 9:30/9:45, 12:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

The mothers room at my work is already scheduled for the following times - 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 4pm.

I'll probably get LO up @ 6am, feed her once, and pump the other side. Daycare opens @ 6:45, so I'm hoping to be in the office by 7:45. Hopefully, I'll leave by 4:30 and be home by 5:15-5:30.

I had initially thought I'd pump 3x at work but I'm not sure that will work with the times the room is already booked. So do you think 9:45am and 1:45pm would be enough?

I do have my own office, but don't know yet if I'd be comfortable pumping in it. It has a glass wall with a fogged privacy strip, so it would definitely have to be with a locked door, lights off, and a nursing cover on.
