I got one at my shower and was like, 'no way!' and then I thought he was a little warm one night and I was taking his temp at his temple and it kept coming out different every time I took it and was driving me nuts. And when I called the pediatrician they said an internal temp was the most accurate for a newborn and you can't get one orally and the ear is too small at that stage.. so I caved and took the rectal one out of the package. I bought an expensive temple thermometer that had great ratings.<br /> DS has had some constipation issues and the pediatrician suggested using the rectal thermometer to stimulate the bowels a few times a day until he finally went. And also, the rectal thermometer gives the most accurate temperature when they are really small.
