@rachiecakes: Lol, that's probably how I would react too if I got one! Well, that's good to know and a little more reassuring! As long as baby doesn't mind its ok! It is for her own good anyway :) I will indeed get one, and hopefully won't have to use it! lol

@aMohror: I totally felt the same way! I got one at my shower and was like, 'no way!' and then I thought he was a little warm one night and I was taking his temp at his temple and it kept coming out different every time I took it and was driving me nuts. And when I called the pediatrician they said an internal temp was the most accurate for a newborn and you can't get one orally and the ear is too small at that stage.. so I caved and took the rectal one out of the package. And DS didn't mind one bit, didn't even squirm.

@rachiecakes: Yeah, I really wanted to avoid using one! But from what I have read I suppose I better pick one up just in case I need it before I can use others! It's just not something I would want to have to do to my baby!

@aMohror: I was very against rectal thermometer before I had DS. I bought an expensive temple thermometer that had great ratings.
DS has had some constipation issues and the pediatrician suggested using the rectal thermometer to stimulate the bowels a few times a day until he finally went. And also, the rectal thermometer gives the most accurate temperature when they are really small. I was glad I had one in the house as back up (and that I didn't have to use it that often, lol).

@aMohror: @blushink: @Crumbs: babycenter actually says babies 3 months and younger. i used the ear thermometer on olive when she had a 102.6? fever, and it was as accurate as our digital rectal thermometer though....

we have the braun thermoscan ear thermometer:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FWXKMM

it's very accurate as i've tested it against rectal, and it was the same. you can't use it until baby is a little bit older though, so i'd keep rectal on hand as well. when olive got a fever at 2 months and i ended up calling the pediatrician late at night, i was glad to have both!

Hello ladies!
I am trying to decide what thermometer to purchase but most of them have horrible ratings! I don't want a rectal one so I'm looking for any other ones that are decent.

Which one do you have and would you recommend it?
