@youboots: Have you checked out Lucie's List? It's pretty awesome and goes over everything you really need and cuts out some of the "fluffy" stuff. I am a minimalist, so that really spoke to me. It goes into everything you need, provides cost effective options as well as reviews. Doesn't hurt that it's also really funny.

@youboots: good call on the City Mini GT, we love ours and I think it will be perfect for your needs. It handles bumpy sidewalks, grass, gravel, and the groomed trails in our huge local park like a champ. We haven't taken it to the beach yet, but I have no doubt that it would be fine there, too.

If you think you will want to use it as a travel system when the baby is small, there is an adaptor kit that makes it possible to snap the infant seat into the stroller.

Thank you all so much!! I registered for a Graco 65 convertible car seat. For a stroller I picked the City Select GT, the adjustable height for M who is 8" taller and all terrain wheels (without being much bulkier) sold me. $350 seems a little steep, but I know strollers can go for a lot more.

@jetsa: I agree with your convertible choice! I love our Graco.

If you want to wait a bit on the convertible seat, you can just leave the infant seat in the car instead of snapping it in and out all the time. You don't necessarily need a second base because you could do a seatbelt install and they are just as safe as long as it is done properly. The base is just for convenience. If you're going to walk to the store, a big basket is really nice. The basket on my BOB revolution isn't the biggest, but I do like the size of the basket on my Bumbleride (it's a discontinued model).

I love our city mini! Very light and easy to maneuver. I think it would be perfect for your situation. We skipped the infant seat and just got a convertible seat. LO went in the stroller (reclined) from 7 weeks on with no trouble.

No idea on the stroller we only have a bob (I was/am a runner) and babywear 90% of the time.

Your sisters infant seat should be great and Id recommend a graco my size 70 (has 4 different names depending on store) it's a great convertible that can go from birth up if you needed it.

Honestly your best bet is to go to a large baby store and try them out, thinking about your main uses. If you walk everywhere, you want a real workhorse of a stroller. I have a b-agile, which I love for it's lightness. But the basket underneath kind of sucks. I also have a b-ready, but it's so heavy and takes up so much room that we don't use it much. However, I call that thing my pack mule because it can really haul a lot of stuff. It also feels like it can go practically anywhere. The agile doesn't seem like it would be good for anything other than perfectly smooth terrain, given the lightness and the 3 wheel design.

I know some people recommend going with a convertible car seat + stroller, especially if you babywear. But for us, we needed the whole travel system. DS always fell asleep in the car and we'd just pick up the whole seat and put him in the stroller. There's no way I was going to unbuckle him from the seat, which would wake him up, so that I could wear him. I did babywear a lot though, but it doesn't always go the way you think it will.

The City Mini or BAgile are good choices. We lived in a small town in England when my DD was little and we used the stroller A LOT. We have a City Mini. It is great. Lightweight, big canopy, easy to fold, easy to clean. Also, their customer service is wonderful. We had a defect with our hinges and they sent us an entire new stroller frame for free. I'd 100% recommend Baby Jogger as a company. Their GT model has e suspension and stuff on the wheels, if you need that. The BAgile is very similar to the City Mini.

You don't NEED the infant seat, but I found it super convenient for those times when she was little and fell asleep in the car. It could be skipped, but I don't regret purchasing one.

As for convertible, we have a Graco My Size 70 and it's a birth-big kid seat. It's got super high RFing limits and can be used pretty much until they are ready for a harnessed booster seat. I'm pretty happy with it.

@weagle it is not expired. My nephew is 18 months. My parents hauled me around in my car seat in the same VW (they got it before I was born and gave it to us a few years back) so I'll have to look into the seatbelt issue.

If you want to go offroad, I suggest looking at a stroller with air filled tires, like a bike.

I'd get an all terrain stroller (like a Mountain Buggy) and a convertible seat and call it done. I am all about less stuff, I did make a fair amount of mistakes and did overbuy.

@youboots: Yes, you can get the stroller alone! You can use it up to 55 lbs and it has a recline function for younger babies, which is nice. It doesn't have rubber wheels, though so it's not the greatest off road. It can easily be pushed through grass but gravel and sand are probably not going to work.

Check and see if the infant seat is expired. I don't thin there're my many seats still usable that only have a 15 lb limit. Also, have the seat belts in the VW been updated in the last 20 years? If not, baby can't go in it.

@mrskoala I was originally registered for the seat and B agile as a travel system. I can register for the stroller alone? What ages is it ideal for? Can it go off-road/ in sand?

If you plan to baby wear most of the time, I'd suggest getting a convertible only and skipping the infant seat altogether. I have the Chicco Nextfit and it seems to be great in terms of the proper recline for a newborn. Here's a link that might be helpful: http://csftl.org/choosing-a-convertible-car-seat-for-a-newborn/

In terms of a stroller, my B-Agile is awesome and I would highly recommend it. It is easy to fold, very lightweight, and easy to figure out.

I am having a really hard time locking down what 'gear' I should register for. Especially in the car seat/stroller category.

Kids need 2 car seats right? My sister is giving me her baby one, good for up to 15 lbs then what? Orgininally I was registered for a Britax travel system but now just need a baby stroller. Then I hear people talking about differnt strollers for differnt ages. I was in SFO for the holiday and there are soooo many out there.

This is our lifestyle, please reccomend something or two something's. We live in a 1910 home in the downtown district of a suburban/farming town. We walk almost everywhere when it is not pouring rain/freezing. So 7-8 months of the year. I hope to do a fair to high amout of baby wearing. Neither of us will run with a stroller. If I go to the grocery store with baby and stroller I will not get more than 2 bags of groceries and I can carry one. We can not easily wheel out a stroller, it will have to go down our front stairs, so easy to maneuver/lightweight is ideal. I'm rather petite and have a hard time carrying things that weigh much more than 20 lbs.

As far as a car seat. My veichle will be the main one for baby, as it is our primary car. M drives a company truck and it's unlikely he will be using it more than 1x a month for baby since I almost never ride in it. We have a 78 VW bus that we use for travel/camping that is M's beat around town car when the weather is good. Do we need a second base for the baby one?

Our registry is light on bigger items and has nothing over $200. Invites for our shower went out yesterday so I would like to add the second car seat we will need and the first or possibly second stroller.

Please help :)
