I'd go with simple! Sometimes that's all guys want. I bought my husband a $300 Michael Kors watch for Christmas last year, and then he never wore it. I got him a $70 watch that tells INACCURATE temperature, and INACCURATE elevation, and he wears it ALL the time because he thinks it's cool how it tells temperature and elevation. :P

My husband recently bought an infrared grill and it keeps meat amazingly juicy. I like my meat well done, no pink, and it doesn't dry out on the infrared. And it cooks so quickly but evenly. The downside is cleaning. DH soaks the grates after each use in the kitchen sink.

Another thing, we just sized down when we got the new grill because it took a lot of gas and time to heat up the big grill when it was just us cooking on a weeknight. Its not like we host major BBQs that often and need tons of space.

1. If you can, go for the Webber. It should last 5-10 years versus the other that lsat 3-5.

2. We just splurged for the true in fared. The only thing DH researched was that some have like slotted grates and some are smooth and easier to clean.

I'm pretty sure the Char-Broil 3 Burner Tru-Infrared grill is the one we have (my parents got it for us as a housewarming gift). We use it all the time and DH loves it! And we've had it for 3 years now with zero issues.

I love that the votes are exactly 50/50 right now. We're not much help!

DH grills a lot, and one of our friends had an infrared so he's used both (and he prefers gas as well). But he doesn't want an infrared. I'm not 100% clear on why, but he used it a LOT so I'd say he has good experience to help him choose. Also, he prefers a bigger one since he does steaks and veggies too, and needs the space.

We have the Tru-infared- DH likes it ok. I wish I had just spent the extra and got him the Webber that had such greats reviews! While I like the infared- and think it cooks well- Webbers are just that much better and last significantly longer!

Another vote for Weber but a charcoal Kettle. Never had a Charcoal gas but can't speak to it.

Not sold on infrared. We bought (deceased) BIL a really nice infrared grill and when he passed we got it. It hasn't hold up.

We have a Traeger wood pellet grill - super easy to use and basically fool-proof. And omg best burgers, chicken, pork, turkey, and beef jerky I have ever tasted haha. http://www.traegergrills.com/

Otherwise charcoal is 2nd best because of the char-grilled flavor. ;)

Is gas his preference? My DH hates a gas grill so we only have charcoal options at our house. And I tend to agree, the charcoal tastes so much better, it's also less convenient.

If you go with a charcoal grill you add a flavor to your food that is just not added by a gas grill but it is also not as quick or easy to start. We have a weber and a big green egg and love both but if you are used to a gas grill and think that's what your husband would prefer Id stick with that.

@BabyBoecksMom: We plan on upgrading to a Weber, but agree it's a huge price difference from our cheapy, however our cheapy only lasted about 4 years before kicking the bucket this year. but I think for the amount you girl, the Charbroil is fine, your DH will appreciate it (and I would go classic, I don't think my husband would like the learning curve ha)

@BabyBoecksMom: According to them and lots of reviews I've read, yes, it's well worth the money - last longer and much better built. All my friends started with cheaper grills and upgraded Weber cause they needed replacement after just a few years. They've had them for as long as the cheaper grills now and still going strong! It sounds like it costs less than replacing cheap grills every few years in the long run too.

So, I just found out I'm getting a bonus this year, so I wanted to get DH a new grill since his is falling apart. The problem is, I have no idea what grill is good.

If it helps to know - he usually grills on it about every 2-3 weeks (more in the summer), and it's usually steaks w/ some veggies like zucchini, squash, corn, or sweet potatoes.

I narrowed it down to two types. I really don't know if one would be better than the other, but if you or SO grills, I would really appreciate some feedback on which one to get. The first one is just a little bigger than his current grill. The 2nd one is a TRU-infrared grill, which is a new technology that is supposed to cook food at a much higher temp, but there's a little bit of a learning curve. (Deals on these grills ends today!)

ETA: He prefers a gas grill
