Not a HUGE issue, and it usually works itself out.</p> <p>Just try to hand express for the first few mins-- you don't want to pump because if it is an imbalance, your body continues to make milk in that ratio. When I'd pull him off during nursing/letdown milk would be coming out quickly, but it wasn't what I would call a heavy spray/stream. I had over active letdown that was really easy to see when I took DD off during letdown (spraying, choking, we would get soaked). Are you pumping on top of BFing? I never spray, rarely leak. I don't even feel my letdowns. When I hand express sometimes it shoots out, but I feel like something else is wrong--not an overactive letdown. Any idea what else could cause these signs in a baby? I will see a LC soon, but in the meantime, please help!</p> <p>Mother may experience (I have none):</p> <p>Strong or even painful sensation when milk ejects<br /> Frequent spraying of milk from one or both breasts<br /> Excessive leaking<br /> More than one let-down per nursing session<br /> Repeated mastitis (breast infections)</p> <p>Baby may exhibit (he exhibits all):</p> <p>Fussiness and/or gassiness<br /> Frequent stools, often green, curdy and mucusy<br /> Gulping, gasping and choking while nursing<br /> Excessive weight gain (not excessive, but very good)<br /> Apparent lack of "comfort" nursing<br /> Discomfort when breastfeeding, sometimes so intense that baby goes on strike </p>
