So glad you're able to go see an RE. I would be confused too if an OB gave me so many options.

UPDATE!!!
DH had a long talk with insurance and apparently I don't need a referral to a RE. So, I am calling one tomorrow. I just got off the phone with a friend who highly recommends one in town and he has amazing ratings and reviews.
For this cycle, we decided to do the HSG and up the Clomid with monitoring.

Thank you ladies for all your advice!! I feel hopeful that we are moving in the right direction now:)

@CupQuakeWalk: You probably need to have the HSG BEFORE Clomid. You most likely should have all the testing (blood work, etc.) before you take meds. You could take all the Clomid in the world, but if your tubes are blocked, the sperms and egg will not meet. The HSG is not painful at all. It's like a Pap smear. Sounds like you might want to talk to an RE. OBs just aren't as experienced with the proper steps in TTC.

My post yesterday had a lot of really good advice about monitoring and which doctor to see. Aside from that, I don't like the fact that she wants to do Clomid for so long and seems against a HSG. I don't have personal experience but at my consultation yesterday, my doctor ordered a bunch of blood work along with a HSG. So it's weird that your doctor won't try that...

@CupQuakeWalk: I can't give you any advice on what to do intervention wise, but can you call your OB and have a frank talk about getting a referral from her. I know it's hard to confront doctors since they are the ones who are supposed to have the answers, but I feel like you could say that you highly value her as your OB, but that you feel strongly that you need to see a specialist (RE) who will have a vast array of experience and will be able to best guide you in making decision about what procedures should be done, medicines, dosage, etc. Maybe mention things like, "As you know, you can only take Clomid for x months, and I don't feel comfortable not seeing and RE during that entire time," etc. I guess I'm just wandering if there is any chance she would refer you without her "standard procedures." If not, I would take a stab at calling your regular doctor and discussing with them if you can get an RE referral.

Good luck!

@CupQuakeWalk: Yup, like everyone's said you definitely need an RE. I know you've been trying a little while and if it was me I wouldn't want to go another 6 months in this direction. *But* if you guys decide to stick with her, I think it's really important to ask what she will do if you do not respond to the dose she gave you. And for what it's worth, Clomid did not thin my lining or have any of the bad side effects people talk about and I think I got up to a 250mg dose.

And check on the monitoring too. If by monitoring she means CD3 blood work and CD21 progesterone, then don't even bother seeing her, go right to an RE.

ETA: I did an HSG but my RE didn't push it until we started talking about doing more extensive procedures like IUI. She thought it was a good idea from the beginning, but she finally convinced me after I had a CP and we were looking to go to injectables and she said you don't want to go to all this trouble to find out a)it's not going to work, and b)there was a simple solution.

ETA2: HSGs aren't typically painful unless you are indeed blocked.

@CupQuakeWalk: Please go see an RE, try calling around to see if they will take a self-referral. What your OB is proposing sounds completely ridiculous. Like some other PP's have mentioned you should not be taking Clomid, etc with out a full diagnostic work up which would include a HSG.

ETA: I don't actually think she can refuse to provide a referral!

First off I wanna hug you! Second I wanna punch your OB and my old OB. OBs can be S-O-Bs regarding any sort of fertility issue. If you can I would see a RE. When I got my preconception testing done I was determined that if we weren't pregnant within 6 months I would see a RE because I knew more about the damn tests than she did. I am wishing you luck and the easiest and quickest journey possible.

@CupQuakeWalk: Oh, what was your name on WB? So curious! If you don't mind telling, that is....yep, glad to give my Clomid story. I was under my RE at that time, though, and had monitoring. I wouldn't advise doing that under your OB, especially with 100mg since you could end up with quite a few follicles and there would be a higher chance of multiples. Plus my RE would check the lining to make sure it wasn't too dry. Sorry you are dealing with all this....I know how hard it is! :(

Everyone has already given great advice (I agree that you should get in to see an RE, not deal with your OB anymore) but I will say that I did one month of 50mg Clomid, then the next on 100mg and I didn't notice a difference with being any dryer. I took mucinex both cycles to help combat that. You can use preseed, too. So in my case I didn't see a difference with that, though I know it can happen. I had two follicles when I took 50mg and had 4 on 100mg. (3 on one side, 1 on the other) Just giving you my story. I would definitely have monitoring to see if you have good follicles and how many! But really, I would have the HSG, see an RE and not deal with her anymore. They really aren't the best for these things. Better to move on to an RE! :)

I just picked them up from my pharmacy. She said, if you take 100mg, it'll dry you up. If you take 50mg, it won't, but the O may not happen. So, it's a toss up. She wants me to take 50mg, but is appeasing me by giving me 100mg. I feel like as the OB, she needs to just decide FOR me.

I will work my dh's insurance today and get myself into a RE. I promise. I know this will take weeks to get into, so for this month, I will do the monitoring, the clomid and the HSG.

So I think you should do what I did with my RE. The MOST important thing is to be monitored during your cycle, both with blood work and ultrasound. What they should do is start you at 50mg for 5 days and do all the appropriate monitoring. This means approximately CD3, CD10, CD13, etc until ovulation. They should know by your E2 if your follicles will keep growing.

If the dose doesn't work then the Dr should bump you up to the higher dose either that cycle, or the next one. My RE did it in the same cycle. Do NOT keeping taking clomid at the same dose for 6 months. If you don't respond to the lower dose, you will only waste time, and an RE won't let you do clomid for that long anyways.

But honestly, if I were you I'd seek out an RE even if it's not paid for by insurance because your OB is not treating you the way an RE (the experts in fertility treatments) would. Or, I would even get a new OB/GYN who will refer you. No RE would even let you do 6 months of clomid, much less keep you at the same dose for months with no results. It's also possible you may be clomid resistant (which I am) and would benefit from a different drug like Femara.

If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer :).
