If she is small I would just keep her in the carseat until she outgrows the limits of the seat! My niece is 5 extremely tall and still fits into a 5 point harness seat. One thing my sister was unaware of and contributed to her decision to keep her in a seat, apparently it's not safe for them to be in a booster if they still fall asleep in the car.

That being said, off my soap box now... my mom has a simple Graco high back booster in her car for my niece (only drives her occasionally) and likes it just fine!

I had LO rear facing until two.
@looch: thanks for those recommendations
I agree on the weight thing being the deciding factor and I like the convertible option. LO is petite so we definitely can't do any changes until next year. However, I'm jumping on the Black Friday sales this year.

@808love: Take this with a grain of salt, I don't go by age, I go by height and weight when determining what seat to use for my son. At 4.5 years old, he's just 40 pounds, so I have him in a harnessed booster.

Since we needed a new seat and I couldn't go from the convertible to the belted booster, I went with a combination harness to booster. It converts from a harnessed booster to a belted booster. We have both the Britax Frontier and the Graco Nautilus and we like them equally. They're a good option in case you need a seat right now.

I haven't looked into standalone belted boosters that much, but I feel like you can't go wrong with either Britax or Graco.

@808love: Yes, it's very new. Most states still say FF at one is okay. Recommendations are now to RF until at least two. My state recommends RF until two and 30 pounds.

@avivoca: She turns 5 early next year so I wouldn't do it until then, if at all. I'm a planner so just pre-shopping. I like to get everything done for the year on Black Friday.
So that's why I didn't do any research yet. But I did read that my state law was 4 years old, just this morning, which totally surprised me! :)

According to that site you just sent me:
In short, the ideal is for children to ride rear facing until age 3-4, forward facing with a 5 point harness until age 5-6, in a booster until age 10-12, and in the back seat until age 13.

I've never heard 3-4 rear facing before!

@808love: how old is your LO? CSFTL doesn't recommend a belt-positioning booster until at least 5, usually 6.

We are thinking of ditching the car seat to a booster in a few more months. Can anyone recommend a favorite?
