We do pajamas, diaper change, story, prayers, nursing, and then put her to bed awake (usually, unless she falls asleep nursing). It's simple, but it works great, and as soon as she hears the lullaby, she's ready! We had trouble getting her to sit still for a book at that hour but we may add that later. It works great because even if we are out of town, as long as the routine is the same, he goes down easy. Our routine:</p> <p> - Bath<br /> - Lotion/diaper/pajama process<br /> - Feed and read story<br /> - Pray, and then read a short poem - it's the same one every night, called "Wherever You Go." Every other night we'd just rinse her with water &amp; skip soap. Then lotion, PJs, nurse, bottle (we supplement), swaddle (we didn't swaddle wean until 4 months) &amp; rock to sleep.</p> <p>Now at 6.5 months it's the same except we do some basic hair care after bath &amp; she goes down very drowsy but awake. Lately we have been playing in the bath while the water runs. We were consistent and it wasn't bad.</p> <p>Our routine is pretty much the same now at 7 months except we do bath every night, we use a sleep sack instead of a swaddle, and she's in the crib instead of the rock n play. We try to read one book after we get her pjs on as well.</p> <p>Between 4-5 months, I messed it up by playing with various permutations of swaddling and not, rock n play vs crib vs our bed, merlin suit, and other stuff. It's been working well. DD can't tolerate much after her bath -- she usually starts roaring as we try to get her diaper and pjs on, so we do it as quickly as possible and then she nurses. Occasionally she nurses to sleep but if she's still awake when she's done eating, I sing a lullaby and then hold her quietly for a bit while she winds down and goes into sleep mode.
