@Lozza: At my childbirth class this weekend, the labor nurse who ran it said the same thing. She told us that using a Moby wrap is the easiest way to deter people from touching. She said most of the time people won't even realize there's a baby there and that they're far less likely to go grabbing around your boobs to touch your baby.

I'm going to get my LO's bibs that say "No Touching. Seriously. Hands off." And put them on every time we leave the house.

I used to have this problem. Usually when I wear her people don't touch. If anything, they'll poke her foot or arm.

One thing that I've heard helps with this is babywearing, since it makes it harder to get to the baby, and it allows you more room to fend people off.

I don't get this. It's like the people who think it's okay to touch a pregnant woman's belly. Respect the space boundaries. Don't touch what isn't yours!

Ugghhhhh, I feel your frustration...why can't people ask for permission or just look at the baby?
The other day at Target, a cashier who was going on break touched my LO's face and hair! I wanted to scream at her to stop and remind her that handling money makes your hands FILTHY but I was too stunned to say anything!

I can see myself losing my mind if someone touches my babies face. I am an NICU nurse, and I am extremely germ conscious about babies.

We will be making people wash their hands when they come into our home, and sanitize before they handle the baby at least until the first set of immunizations. I don't believe that my baby needs to be exposed to more germs that the parents carry to build immunity.

Breastfeeding will help the baby guard against many germs that the Mom is exposed to, but there are all types of nasty things in our community (MRSA/VRE/Norovirus etc) that my baby doesn't need on its face or hands!

OMG I'm sorry you had to deal with that. People just don't seem to take other people into consideration, especially around babies.

I think it does depend on age to some extent, but it is still incredibly rude. Once DS was 6 months I didn't worry as much. I do think germs will help the immune system, but I also don't like to take risks with DS. I was LIVID when DH left DS with FIL when he was sick for 30 minutes to run an errand. Sure enough DS got sick! I think he was 8 months old, but taking care of a sick baby is no fun. And DS doesn't understand why he feels bad either.

We just ask nicely and wipe her off when they leave. My grandma is in hospice so we visit a lot, and someone always touches LO. Nurses, who should know better, and have probably just been touching sick old people. They just don't think.

I tooooooooooooootally know how you feel. I've had someone put her finger IN LO's mouth to check for teeth. I think I almost lost my mind. I was very vocal about how I felt. I think it takes one very blunt telling-off for people to get it.

I yelled at someone touching my baby at church today. He just came over and decided to touch LO's face. I asked him to stop touching him but he just ignored me! So I totally flipped out- I asked him where has his hands been and reminded him that LO is a BABY. Then I proceed to wipe LO's face and hands with baby wipe. He ran away and everyone else around us got quiet. I just don't know why people refuse to respect our personal space. Even though it's church and I understand they just want to be friendly- but please just do not touch my baby with your dirty hands!!!

Ahh! Any suggestions on what to do? We already hang hand sanitizer on our stroller and normally people uses them before touching LO, but a lot of the times there are rude people like him that just refuses to respect our wishes! HE IS A BABY AND HE HAS A VERY WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM. Don't tell me BS like oh it's going to build his immune system with the exposure to germs. Do YOU take care of him when he is sick? I don't think so.
