Not nuts! But, I'd be careful sizing up in non-maternity - you're going to end up buying maternity stuff anyways, so I was of the philosophy that sooner was better and more comfortable and didn't size up in regular clothes or buy a bella band or anything. I also thought I'd size up in maternity and bought clearance jeans at the end of last season right after I found out.. and they're too big. Everyone gains differently and mine is all in my stomach! I did, however, think about what would still be 'pregnancy friendly' in terms of maxi dresses and shirts.

Yup! I tend to my flowy shirts lately that can also double up as maternity shirts (hopefully).

Oh I was just at Target and they had summer maternity on clearance and I almost bought some stuff because if I were to get KU in the next few months I'd need it for next summer.

@alayaya: I'm more like you-- I'm just sort of avoiding buying too much while I wait and see when it happens, but I won't buy something with the intent to wear it while pregnant. I don't want to jinx anything or see it in my closet and be sad about it. I have been making a point to not buy too much that will be unlikely to fit after a baby or that I wouldn't wear as a SAHM.
I wear a lot of loose or drapey tops and dresses anyway, though. It was really upsetting when my coworker wore a Gap dress as a maternity dress (like, 7 months in) that I also own as a NON-maternity dress. It's not a maternity style but had a high waist, drapey, loose, and stretchy. I didn't wear it again for a year.

I've done this. I have a sweater that I bought one size up so that I could continue to wear it if I got pregnant before the Fall. Turns out I didn't so I could have just gotten my regular size... oh well. It is still a cozy sweater.

I've also done the opposite. There was this pair of pants that I wanted to buy but I was in my two week wait and I didn't want to get them if I wasn't going to be able to wear them for long (they were really super tight skinnies). So I put off the purchase. Then when I got my AF that month I went online and bought them as a pick me up.

I actually stopped buying clothes for awhile before TTC because DH said I should just shop for maternity clothes ones I was pregnant. There was a gorgeous form fitting dress that fit like a glove that I actually bought and returned because I realized if we were TTC I would probably not have the opportunity to wear it.

@mrs. bird: @PrincessBaby: Thanks ladies, y'all make me feel a lot better! I assumed other women did this, but just needed to be sure!

@shopaholic: That makes sense about not buying too many sized up because they'll be big everywhere else. I am just going to stick to the one pair sized up for now. I have a small waist and junk in the trunk though (and I always gain weight in my butt/thighs first) so I doubt I will have the problem of them being too loose in that area :)

You're not nuts! I totally did the same thing! But don't get too much stuff ahead of time like sizing up, I suggest. A lot of tops I thought would be perfect maternity tops b/c they were loose and flowy, turn out to be not LONG enough, and actually are more unflattering when you're all bloated.
I still haven't had to wear most of my preggers jeans, and wonder if I've bought too many (but I figure I'll have to wear them at the end of the pregnancy & for future pregnancies). I bought one pair of jeans sized up and I still haven't worn it b/c it's loose everywhere else! The rubber band/elastic trick is still my best friend so far.
Either way, good luck with TTC and enjoy!

@lawbee11: You are not nuts! I totally did this while we were ttc! I would try something on, and be like - Oh I shouldn't buy this bc it couldn't grow with me when I get preg...Or I WOULD buy something, like a maxi dress, because I could wear it when pg too, so that was double justification that I should purchase!

FWIW, the things I bought before being KU that I thought I could wear during pregnancy too really DID get worn a lot through this pregnancy! I didn't have to buy a lot of casual maternity clothes, because the dresses or drapey/loose styles that I bought prepreg lasted me the whole time:)

DH and I are going to start TTC in a couple of months (I am so excited!!). I went to Loft on Friday to buy a new pair of jeans because they were having a sale, and the size 4 fit perfectly. But then I thought to myself "hmmm, hopefully I'll be knocked up soon," so I bought the size 6 so that I'll have room to grow!! Am I nuts?! Have you ever done anything like this??
