When E was 10 months old, she crawled to my bedside table and pulled up on it, bringing it and the glass lamp that was sitting on it crashing down onto her. I was on the other side of the room, putting my make up on - I heard the crash (furniture falling and glass smashing) and spun around to find it on top of my baby. I pulled the cabinet off her, with no idea what I would find underneath. She was mostly unhurt but we were so, so lucky. We had missed the bedside table when tethering furniture to walls - I felt so guilty.

Oh and today she smashed her teeth into her lip at soft play - there was blood everywhere. :crying:

Around 6 months dd, rolled off the changing table/dresser. Even worse, I had a drawer open since I was getting clothes out and she hit the drawer before getting to the ground.

Today in tumbling class my toddler jumped face first into the wooden gymnastic bars. THREE TIMES. THREE. While I stood there and watched like an idiot.
Literally just dumb with shock.
Ugh.

When my son was about...10 months I think....I put him on his glider to look at a book. Against my better judgement I decided to walk around his room and tidy up. About 30 seconds later I heard a smack and he had dove head first off of the chair. Fortunately it was on a rug and I think he avoided landing on his head. But I immediately felt awful and kicked myself. I don't know why I did it because I knew he couldn't get down from the chair. :bummed:

ETA: Just thought of another. We were on vacation in December and had a really nice walk in shower. We decided instead of a bath we'd let him walk in with my husband. Well husband went in first, I got DS undressed and he went into the shower. My husband was like "come to daddy!" And had his arms open and I'm like cheering DS on. He's laughing and excited and sort of high stepping. The shower floor was slick (we didn't even consider that since it's a non issue for us) and his feet came right out from under him. He literally was in the air parallel to the ground then dropped like a rock. Smacked his head on the floor and his back slapped the wet marble. It took a few seconds for him to register what happened. He just laid there with a shocked look on his face.
At the time we felt so so bad...but...since he was fine (he only cried for a couple mins) when we think back to it we laugh so hard because it was literally like a cartoon. (Obviously we don't think him getting hurt is funny. You know what I mean :-) )

I swear anytime C has actually gotten hurt I've cried longer than she did. Although these stories are enough for me to be more careful since I always lay my 5 month old on the bed while I'm doing things. Need to be careful now that she's rolling, so thank you for this thread!

@petitenoisette: lol. Nicely caught.

D fell off his glider footrest onto a hardwood floor at 5 months old. I had taken my hands off of him just to unsnap my nursing bra. It was Hubs' first Father's Day and we spent the morning in the ER. D was fine, and the pediatrician we saw said it happens alllll the time.

You are definitely not the worst! My oldest fell off the bed pretty young too and landed on his head! I just wasn't paying close enough attention.

And he's going to fall a LOT, so try not to beat yourself up about it! Kids are so flexible at this age and they bounce back so quickly!

I have so many stories...

We were at my husbands Aunt's house (who is a firefighter/paramedic). I was sitting on a rug that was covering tile floor, DS was crawling over my legs (10 months), slipped and smacked his head right on the tile. It happened so fast I couldn't catch him. He ended up with a huge goose egg almost immediately. Luckily his Aunt was there to calm me down and tell me he would be fine. Like others have said, kids are resilient!

When he was three months old I needed to get some camping gear out of the garage. So I got his stroller out and put him in it so he could be near me in the garage. I didn't even think about buckling him in and he started squirming and slid right out onto the floor. He went feet first and was fine, I think I cried harder than he did! DH still hasn't let me live that one down.

At about 18 months old he was sitting on the couch with me. All of a sudden he turns and jumps head first over the arm of the couch! Landed on the top of his head on our hardwood floor.

This one still makes me laugh (I feel like a bad mom for laughing though...) DS was 2 years old and he kept sitting on the floor and leaning against our screen door. I kept telling him that he needed to move and not sit right there. Sure enough, one time the door gave way and he did a backwards somersault down our concrete step (just one step). He cried for about 2.5 seconds then started laughing. I got him inside and he immediately tried to do it again! Little stinker.

My worst mom ever moment was when DS was only a week or two old, I was carrying him to his room and overestimated the width of the doorway, and bumped his head on the trim on the way in. ;( He barely cried but had a red mark and I felt AWFUL.
Hugs!

Last week, my son fell off of a hotel bed in the middle of the night because I dozed off. He had a huge bump.

The other day my daughter belly flopped onto concrete because she tried to jump off of something (she is 3 and climbs up everything and loves to jump off of things although we are constantly trying to put an end to these behaviors...)

There have also been two times in which I took dd to the ER for falls. She has always been a climber and it is so frustrating. So yah. Oops.

My DD squirmed off our bed onto the hardwood floor when she was 6 or 7 months old. I felt horrible for days but she was fine. The nurse at our ped's office said things like this are why babies are squishy and bouncy.

Absolutely! DS fell of our high bed and whacked his head on our hardwood floors when he was 8 months (dh and I had a miscommunication...) We were on our way out of the door for a vacation and the ped said the same thing, that babies heads are meant to withstand these things. I was so worried our entire trip there that we kept waking the baby up to make sure he was ok.

I think a "bad mom" puts a baby on the bed fully knowing they will fall off and is fine with it, not one who makes an honest mistake. Your baby was probably crying so hard because you were so upset (I was, too!)

Forgive yourself and get some extra snuggles with your little man today. It will be good for your heart and his.

A bit different, but my husband was holding our then 4 month old, he slipped on ice and they both fell. Poor baby had a fractured femur. It was an ordeal. My husband felt so awful. But baby is fine. Even a fall that extreme, we barely think about it anymore. My daughter is a happy, healthy 9 month old now, with no negative effects.

DS has fallen off chairs in our kitchen onto tile more times than I remember. One time he tripped and cut a chunk out of his chin on the same tile. Another time he tripped and stabbed his mouth with a colored pencil. Another time he dropped a 5 lb weight on his foot.
Probably the worst though was once at the playground he stepped out of an opening meant for bigger kids to climb out of and caught himself with his hands and head. It gave him a bloody nose and freaked me out. That was the first really bad fall he had. The first one is always the worst!
He's only 2 and I've lost count of how many times he's started bleeding from falls!

And unfortunately, your DH is right - falling is just part of childhood and we can't protect them from every bump as much as we would like to. I fell down the stairs holding my DD when she was an infant. I couldn't stop sobbing. :crying:

It has been the worst morning over here! You know when you just have one of those days and feel like the worst mom ever? That's me today.

LO took a tumble off the bed this morning as I turned my head for ONE second. I knew I shouldn't have even put him there but I was so tired this morning I wasn't even thinking. He fell flat on his back and knocked his head on the tile. I heard the smack and my heart dropped out of my chest. I WAS A MESS and so mad at myself. he screamed and I cried and I immediately called up my ped and went to see them within the next hour. He has a little tiny goose bump and a little bruising on the back of his head. My ped just said to watch him, felt his head, and sent us on our way. She said it is very common and boys seem to be more of the movers and bumpers. He has been acting completely normal and still himself. Has anyone had this happen to them? Please tell me I'm not the worlds worst momma over here. :crying: I've been holding back tears all day. DH says this will be the first of many falls but I can't stop feeling guilty.
