I've had mirena for a little over a year. I've noticed the same thing with only spotting a little most cycles. However, I haven't noticed any bad PMS symptoms. Then again, I've been on hormonal birth control for years and years and I have pretty bad PMS symptoms when I'm NOT on it. I'm happier on birth control. Before getting pregnant, I was on Yaz to help with some of those symptoms (bloating, moody, breakouts, etc.). Honestly, my symptoms feel better now on Mirena than they did before. Weird.

Any more stories to add to this? I've been feeling pretty bad for a while and have had mirena for about a year. No true periods, just light spotting for a day or two. I'm starting to think it's related to my really bad mood weeks. Did having it removed help?

Well... I felt kinda crabby all the time. Like, proper raging PMS would have been preferable because at least it would have been over and done in a week and I'd know what was going on.

Also, I had like zero interest in sex the whole time I had it (close to 3 years). I felt weird all the time.

For me, PMS was way worse while I wasn't on mirena. I had bad cramping, I would feel super down and angry.

Now, I know it's coming when I get more irritated than usual. I don't have a full period but just spotting.

I really didn't like the way I felt emotionally and hormonally on the Mirena. It took me a long to to realize it because the changes where subtle. But I found I was slightly depressed, and sad and prone to spilling over emotionally. Hormonal birth control is just not for me.... even a low dose like the Mirena.

Yes, everything you wrote above is exactly my experience! I've had it in for almost a year and a half and while I barely spot, the mood swings are ridiculous recently!

eta. I'm not on anti-depressants, though.

I've had the Mirena for about a year now. It took a while, but for the most part my periods have stopped, though I do get spotting once in a while. This past weekend I had a very light period/spotting for 2-3 days. I also had crazy mood swings (I really lost it on my kids and husband), felt pretty depressed, etc. I have also been on anti-depressants for the past year and a half.

At the time I didn't really connect the spotting with my crazy mood, but now I think maybe they were related. It was really the lowest I've felt in a long time and kinda threw me for a loop.

If you have a Mirena, or other IUD, do you still experience PMS and/or mood swings? I'm wondering if I had a crazy hormone fluctuation since this was the first (sort of) period I've had in a while.
