I only wear shorts in casual situations, so I open and use them. I wish every article of clothing had pockets.

If they are nicer I keep them closed, otherwise I open them because I love pockets.

I tend to keep them closed, especially in the back if there are any, but shorts to me are casual and I don't worry so much about the line they create.

Open them. Life is too short to have unusable pockets.

For me it depends on the cut and fabric of the shorts. Crisp twill "dressier" short that I might wear with wedges or tuck a blouse into? Keep em shut. More casual, looser fitting or stuff I foresee shlepping around in? Open them. But my life is pretty casual so I only have one pair of shorts with the pockets sewn shut

Keep them stitched so they lay flat or open them and use them?
