@stiletto_mom: vitamin supplements are not recommended unless prescribed by a pediatrian. The twins were already on a multi vitamin prescribed by the pediatrician. Water alone given to an infant can lead to water intoxication. Water mixed with formula is completely different from just water. My family member has this crazy idea to overload on vitamin c. It nuts for an adult to believe that vitamin c will cure everything but even more insane to dissolve vitamin c powder in water and spoon feed it to my son for 8 hours. I had just come home from a long day visiting my daughter who was in the hospital with RSV and had come home to hear they had apparently cured my son of his cough, gas and runny nose. The last thing I wanted was to call poison control at 3 in the morning. Luckily, all was fine but I still have no idea how much powder was dissolved. My family member said it was just a little bit. I don't believe them. I trusted this family member and thought she was the more normal and reliable people in my family. Not anymore.

My middle gets into stuff a lot more than my oldest ever did. She or the dogs got into some Borax ant poison once so we called but she was fine. Another time I called as she got into the craft supplies and I saw some of the craft paint on her mouth. It was fine once again though.

I called last week! My 2.5 year old chewed on a glowstick and it broke in her mouth. I called the doctor and they told me to call poison control. FWIW, glow sticks are non-toxic!

I've never called for one of my children. I called once for my cat, although I can't remember why, and when I was younger I called fairly often for my brother (he once ate a 3 month supply of vitamin c for dinner, and once he ate a photographic slide) and once for my mom (she decided to mix the hot tub chemicals together in the house and made chlorine gas).

My son was able to squeeze his arm through a child lock on a cabinet and grab my dogs kidney medication, get the lid off and drop several on the floor before my husband - standing right next to him - noticed the sound of the pills hitting the floor.

We didn't think he ate any of them but called just to make sure. He would have had to eaten like 20 of them (more than were in the bottle, and the bottle was still full) for it to be an issue.

I've had to call. DS sprayed a bunch of Mildew/Mold cleaner into his mouth. All was fine...I guess bleach isn't so bad.

And I called once while babysitting my younger brothers who were probably under 5 years at the time. I dropped a mercury thermometer and little mercury balls literally exploded all over our kitchen. I thought for sure I had poisoned our whole house.

When I was 3 or 4, I drank an entire bottle of cherry Chloraseptic while my mom was in the shower... I thought it tasted great. She left it on the top of my dresser, which I had climbed. Poison Control told her it would be like I drank a pot of coffee. I don't really remember much from the day, obviously...

I went to call it once when my DD drank some shampoo (a very minute amount). Turns out my province doesn't have a poison control, you're supposed to call 911 or Telecare. I did a Google search and shampoo isn't poisonous, so I didn't call 911 lol.

My 2 year old found a Flinstone vitamin (chewable iron containing version) that had fallen and I couldn't find it. She'd had her 1/2 vitamin dose already so that put her at 3x normal recommended amount...I figured better safe than sorry. Poison control said she's need 16 for them to be worried.

I called poison control when I was 13 or so and watching a bunch of kids (younger siba and cousins) a 4 year olds ate a bunch of berries of an ornamental tree. I was really impressed with how they talked me through the plant ID process. Everyone was fine, they told me to feed the kids 8 cups of milk.

Yup, someone put too much formula powder in DD's bottle and I was concerned about the iron in the powder. I called poison control. All was okay.

Then a family member decided to give my 4 month old son overdose of Vitamin C dissolved in water while I was visiting my daughter in the hospital with RSV. Yeah, I had to call poison control again. Poison control and the nurse at my pediatrician's office was shocked that someone thought giving vitamin C and water was a good idea. Yeah... still haven't heard an apology from that family member.

So far I've called poison control for each kid so far.

Yes, my son licked some antibacterial Hibiclense soap and I wanted to make sure it was okay. I figured that poison control has a better database to immediately look up the "poison" and report back based on his age and weight.

Yes - twice on my oldest boy. Once, when he was about 3, I left the room to take care of his baby brother and came back in to see him with the tube of petroleum jelly in his mouth and it was on his fingers. Of course, the back of the tube said not to ingest it, so I called just to make sure. No problems. Then, the same kid ate part of a pool noodle once. I googled that and read that those things are made of some pretty nasty chemicals, so I called to make sure it wouldn't get into his system. They said just to watch for the chunk to "pass." ha!
