@lawbee11: WHAT ?!?!?!? My city isn't listed and we have the original train and do the polar express thing. I've touched the original train. Lol

If I had the money I would with both my LOs. Ages 2 and 9 mos. it's quite pricy though. /: wish it was cheaper considering I live maybe two miles from the starting point of the train...

I would just do it:)

Last weekend we went to Disney on Ice and I wasn't 100% sure that H would be into it, or that it would hold her wild attention span, but she LOVED it and watching her look so fascinated and getting so into it just made my LIFE. It was one of those times as a Mom that I think I'll always remember:)

That may or may not happen, but I would do it just to try my luck because if she does love it, you will be over the moon watching her love it:)

We are taking our boys (DS#1: 2yrs; DS#2: 4 months) this year, although I think it's only 45 minutes away. I think starting a tradition like this is perfect at any age!

I'd probably only do it this year (LO will be 22 months in December) if DH or I was really into it. The distance wouldn't deter me at all, but LO isn't particularly interested in trains and we haven't read the book yet.

Last year DD1 was about that age and I opted to wait till this year. She wouldn't have gotten it. This year she will be ~32 months and we are going to take her on it! She loves trains and understands the concept so I'm so excited to take her! Ours is only about 40 minutes away.

I'm jealous of those of you whom got Groupons! I haven't seen our local one offered on Groupon.

@knittylady: was it open seating? I want to get our tix ASAP but plan on asking ILs if they want to join but don't want to wait for them to respond for fear of the date & time I want selling out. Last one before Xmas!

Ah, now I want to do this! But I checked the site and the one closest to us said that children need to be over 2 to participate. I think M would probably like it more/sit better next year anyway. Will have to make a mental note!

We used to do something similar to this on a steam train when we were kids. It was absolutely magical, I would definitely do it with a toddler, it's never too early to start making Christmas memories

We did the train for E's first birthday, and she loved it! Granted that was during the summer and we had gorgeous weather and an open air car, but maybe in TX you can still do that in Dec? ;) It was about two hours away, but we routinely drive long distances for my stepkids, so we're all used to it.

I already bought a Groupon for a North Pole Express ride for us for December.

"Join Santa, Mrs. Claus, and a host of holiday adventure aboard the 60-80 minute North Pole Express train ride. While musicians play Christmas carols, riders experience the magic of a round trip journey as they travel through historic county on their way to the North Pole. Passengers will sing along, play games, sip warm cocoa, and nibble cookies as Santa and Mrs. Claus visits with each child to deliver a special gift."

Yours sounds even more elaborate! I think the photo op alone is worth it ;D

Having just been on that train's pumpkin patch express with an 11 month old and two 21 month olds, I say wait a year. We plan on doing the Polar Express ride, but not for another 2-3 years and it's not that far a drive for us since my parents live an hour away from there. Also - totally worth the extra money for the enclosed cars.

I voted no, simply because of the distance. I'd wait until next year. We're doing one this year at 2.5 years, and it's less than an hour away, but I wouldn't have wasted the money last Christmas. If it were closer, I'd definitely say it was worth trying.

@lawbee11: since it's kind of far could you turn it into a mini-vacation? Like stay at a hotel that night--let her go swimming in the hotel pool and have a fun night away as a family. Then, maybe get up and do breakfast & go Christmas shopping before you head home. We do something similar every year. We go to Christmas Town at Busch Gardens. It's only an hour away, but we make it into a little Christmas-themed overnight trip. We make sure to get an ornament every year to commemorate our little trip. Sadie loved it last year!
