Yeah sounds like she was very wrong. I'm all about supporting everyone's rights but she was very much in the wrong. Team officers here.

This definitely seems more of a problem of her having the baby in a "pit" area and nothing to do with bf-ing. I dont even always feel safe in those areas. It is certainly not safe for a baby.

@loveisstrange: @pinkcupcake: i've been to the outdoor amphitheater and it's no mosh pit (especially at a brad paisley concert), just the GA standing room area.

reading more, it's so hard to tell what the truth is... BUT kids are allowed in the amphitheater, you have to be checked in order to get into the pit area there and it seems like they could have stopped her multiple times if infants weren't allowed in that area.

it definitely seems like it's more than just a BFing issue.

I'm having a hard time believing it was because of breast feeding. If it was, why would they offer her another seat? Wouldn't they just want to kick her out of the venue altogether?

And seriously, taking a baby into a concert pit... why, why, why?...

I find her story highly suspicious.

Also, why the HELL would you wear your baby in a freaking mosh pit with no ear coverings?! That's just irresponsible, IMO.

I side with the officer in this, if she was in the pit (especially near the front) that is horribly dangerous and selfish on the mom's part. And no ear protection as well? And I agree with @MamaMoose: saying that she had done it before was a lame excuse. Yeah the first security guard shouldn't have mentioned the breast feeding but honestly that would be the least of my concerns here. Just get a babysitter :(

Hmmm...i wonder what really happened. I'm skeptical that someone actually asked her to stop Bfing, then the police got involved. I know it happens, but this feels like a 5 minutes of fame story. Or support, in the form of monies.

ya there is definitely multiple sides to this story. i can't say which is the truth and just echo what others are saying - wrong to say she can't nurse, but not smart to bring an infant to a concert pit. I would have taken the alternate seat and nursed happily sitting down (although i probably would never bring a baby to a concert in the first place).

@night cheese: I read the same on the la times. Haven't watched the video but apparently the officer says in the video that its not about breastfeeding. Idk about the security guard but I'm not a little skeptical of that fb page's posts about it. Could be accurate, could not be, but I'd follow up somewhere else.

It sounds like the security guard did a bad job , but that the police officer was completely legit and that it was not related to bfing. I fully support bfing rights, but I think things like this can get in the way...making a need story about being when it's not necessarily the issue.

Sounds like this woman is telling a story that is less than the truth in order to garner sympathy. Perhaps she was asked not to breastfeed by a guard, and that's certainly not acceptable. But it doesn't make it OK to stand in a concert pit with an infant strapped to her chest without ear protection. And her reasoning was "I did this same thing at the Tim McGraw concert". OK... so you are regularly endangering your baby?

That is crazy! It is SUCH a kid-friendly theater, I can't see how the guards could possibly have made such a big deal about it :(

@night cheese: Interesting... I wonder if maybe there is more to her story then? I would actually hope so - I hope she wasn't attacked BECAUSE she was BFing :( But then I also hope most people have enough common sense to not bring a baby into the crazy pit at the bottom of a concert!

I have to say, I would NEVER bring a baby to a concert without ear protection. So I support the officer's concern.

But it seemed like security was concerned about her breastfeeding and the officer knew that was a mess he didn't want to get involved in. So the officer probably should not get in any trouble, but the security should. Especially if they did indeed take photos of her nursing to show their supervisor. Ick.

@night cheese: I would totally support asking her to leave the pit if there were worries for the baby, but it seemed like that was brought up only after they had asked her to stop breastfeeding multiple times, and taken photos of her nursing. It kind of seemed like an excuse at that point to get rid of her.
Again though, we're only hearing pieces of the story.

From what I read, they didn't ask her to leave because she was breastfeeding; they removed her because she was in a rowdy pit with the baby and security was afraid the baby would get crushed.

I'm not saying this is the whole story or that I believe one over the other, just that it's another angle.

Have you heard about this story? This was posted on the Badass Breastfeeder facebook page last night:

"At around 8PM tonight a woman and her nursling were in attendance at a concert at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in San Diego, CA. She posted a status on Facebook stating that a security guard told her to stop breastfeeding. The female security guard stated that it was making others uncomfortable.

This mother was trying to feed her youngest in her baby carrier, however security continued to stand next to her and even photographed her, taking the photos to the supervisor. At around 9PM, she was escorted out by the Chula Vista Police. CVPD's reasoning was that it was abuse for bringing a baby to a concert, stating they will be filing a claim with CPS.

Her husband is deployed right now and she needs our support. I am still in contact with the San Diego Nursing in Public Task Force and will continue to update you."

This is horrible! Taking pictures of her breastfeeding (in a carrier no less so it had to have been at least somewhat discreet)? I'm so sad for this mama. I wonder if the police had some legitimate reason for their actions that isn't being reported, but it sure doesn't sound like it. :(
