Or, at least it should be.</p> <p>I think tasing a child is totally out of line, unless it's absolutely extraordinary circumstances. There really aren't enough facts about what exactly was happening when the officers felt they needed to make that choice.</p> <p>On a side note, the lawyer for the family of the girl sounds like a pretty horrible person who is just looking for a pay day. She is quoted as describing the girl as "an 8 year old, 70 pound Indian girl". First of all, what does the girl's race have to do with whether or not officers should have been able to disarm her? We don't know how close this little girl was to hurting herself with this knife. Working in mental health and helping treat patients who have literally stabbed themselves in the abdomen or sliced their own throats (children too) the officers may have seen that she was close to doing herself serious bodily harm. While it's heart breaking that this child felt this was her only way out of a difficult situation, the officers may have been looking at her greater wellbeing at that moment. She was severely shocked with high voltage and then had open wounds from the metal hooks.</p> <p>It was absolutely excessive. 1 or 2 officers could have absolutely overpowered her. They are specifically trained in disarming people with knives, and this was a little 70 pound girl. Uncalled for. The child wasn't hurt though and no one else was injured as a result of her not being able to cut anyone with the knife. Was if justified? Hard to say. But I don't think a lawsuit is justified when the cops were doing there job and used their best judgement.
