We live in cloudy PNW and were hardly outside in the winter months so I felt that it was warranted. I trust my intuition a lot, and research to back it up, and with EBF babies, I just don't believe they need additional supplements. I did get Carlson's Vit D drops and use it when I remember, even now. Carlson's is easy to give b/c you can put it in their milk or water. It's just one drop and that's it. I just ask my oldest to open his mouth and I drop one in there. Formula and cow's milk are fortified with vitamin D while breast milk obviously isn't. After 6 months there may be evidence that some of that is reduced in the breastmilk. My pediatrician recommended it at 6 months old but I never gave my son any of those. My philosophy is that he can be tested and if his levels are low I would. Granted, I love in a desert and sun is always out so Vitamin D is less important because we get it.
