@bluestriped bee: the recovery was not long at all, maybe a couple days. we had to put off proceeding with starting IVF for other reasons, but we would have only had to wait one full cycle to begin under normal circumstances.

Just to follow up on my original question, I did bring this up with the head RE and he didn't think it amounted to much. I had a chemical after that but they thought it was a follicle issue, nothing to do with a polyp. At that clinic I was able to see the notes after every u/s and no one ever saw the polyp again.

I had some polyps that were found during a sonohistogram and confirmed with hysteroscopy during my pre IVF testing. RE said they should definitely be removed before IVF because they can cause miscarriage. He also said they're probably really common and many women get pregnant with them, but they go undiscovered unless you're being monitored for fertility treatments. I had minor surgery to have them removed. Basically, it was another hysteroscopy while I was under anesthesia. I was back at work the next day, with an "official" recovery period of 10 days. I did have some sporting that continued until I started BCP 2-3 weeks later. There was no added delay to our IVF timeline. In fact, that surgery counted as my endometrial scratch, so it saved me from having to do that procedure.

I really freaked out when they first told me about the polyps and the surgery, but it really wasn't terrible in hindsight. And it was so so worth it knowing that we were doing everything we could to give our babe the best chance possible of sticking around.

Bumping an old thread.

@beachbee: So was there a couple months delay to recover from the surgery to remove the polyp?

RE thinks I have a polyp and I'm going to have an SIS to determine if it is a polyp. They made it sound like an easy surgery that would take a small procedure and I took that to mean a short recovery. Like maybe a month delay. I know I'm a bit impatient but it would be good to get a real expectation in my head.

They mentioned something that looked like a polyp on my hsg, but not sure whatever happened with that. I now I didn't get surgery or anything. I'll have to ask my hubby to see if he remembers anything.

Is this with your new re? What's up with these doctors and communication?

I had uterine polyps which were discovered during my IVF screening tests. My RE explained that they would need to be removed prior to beginning IVF because the hormones could cause them to grow and they wanted my uterus to be clear for implantation. Unfortunately the only way to remove them was surgery so I had the surgery a couple months prior to starting our IVF cycle.

Did you mention this to your RE? I don't know why they would let you see that type of note but not offer explanation or next steps. I would definitely make an appt with the doc to discuss those findings and whether surgery would be required or if there are alternate solutions.

Does anyone have experience with uterine or endometrial polyps? Two cycles in a row now I've seen that the u/s tech has made a note about seeing an endometrial polyp, and this week she wrote that it was 7x5x9, "could be more". I don't know if it grew after I took Tamoxifen last cycle but I wish my RE would talk to me about what is going on.

Does anyone know more about these and especially if they ever go away without surgery?
