@winniebee: we had a fence installed with a gate latch but it didn't have an alarm. We recently switched it out to one that does have one, the MagnaLatch Alert. It was very easy to switch them out, though, since our original latch was also a MagnaLatch, just not one with an alarm. My point being that installing this type of latch alarm might not be so easy overall???!

@Madison43: it does not. There is an entrance to our garage and then our garage has an entrance to the pool, which we keep locked. Otherwise the pool is fenced in within the yard (wrought iron fence with the type of gates you have to pull up from on the top and they are too short to get to it).

@travelingnanny: yeah they are. The 4 year old can swim across the short length of the pool (it isn't pretty). There is no way for them to get into the fenced in area of it is properly latched. We are very vigilant, but I worry.

@winniebee: I love the idea of a pool alarm. I am also very paranoid about this as it seems to happen every summer that some kids even those who know how to swim, manage to get into a pool unsupervised with horrible consequences. Our complex has a pool but we are moving soon and will be house hunting very soon and I've been adamant about avoiding a pool just because of how paranoid I am. An alarm would really ease my fears

Does your home's exterior door open directly into the pool area? If so, my sister was able to tie a pool alarm into her existing home alarm system, maybe that's an option.

My parents just use this lock on the fence door- https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00J5TDVEE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469408115&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=pool+gate+lock&dpPl=1&dpID=41Sk45VaI8L&ref=plSrch

It does the job and I can't imagine a child being able to get into the pool with it.

You could use something like this on the back door-
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00178HMCI/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469408285&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=door+alarm&dpPl=1&dpID=41TKiINpXOL&ref=plSrch

My advice is get them in swim lessons if they aren't already.

We have a pool in our backyard and it is fenced in within the yard. There is only one access to that area, directly from our house, and we keep that locked. I'm getting increasingly paranoid that one of my kids is going to get into the pool area without us. We have a 4 year old who on the surface is rather responsible and listens well, but accidents happen. And our 19mo....yeesh.

Does anyone have an alarm system for their pool that they would recommend? I am looking at some on Amazon.

Thanks
