@Vegmama: we are dealing with something similar...we are using aquaphor, true godsend...the nurse recommended we use it over anything else...and it has been a mircle worker...

Hi mamas!! So, I don't think she's teething. I think it was too much moisture in her dipes. We weren't using a dry cloth to blot after using our wet wipes. We've been giving her lots of air time, using Aveeno diaper rash cream, and disposable diapers overnight. It seems to be getting better!

No experience to offer, but Triple Paste works wonders for us w cloth diapers and rash. DS had welts one time bc he had popped in the MOTN. We dont know how long he was sitting in it, but the rash was bad!

LO had bad diaper rash/acidic poop until he went meds for acid reflux. He hasn't really had issues since. We also cloth wipe/cloth diaper.

Another vote for teething for us! But she was much older at the time. I would also look into something acidic you're eating if you're BFing?

This happens all the time with DS, and he's 13 months - although as long as I apply diaper rash ointment quickly (I use Desitin) it clears up right away. He is mildly allergic to dairy and possibly soy, so anytime he eats traces of those ingredients (often) his poor cheeks get angry. It also happens with tomatoes and teething. He has extremely sensitive skin!

This happened once we started solids, anything acidic causes her to break out similar to what you described. At that age, though, I did find that if I didn't change her right after she poo'd she would get red. Not sure if that has anything to do with your sutuation, I think my LO just has a sensitive tushy!

We only had that happen once, it was right after she are sweet potatoes the first time. We haven't had it since, but I felt so bad for her.

LD has MSPI and before I eliminated soy this happened to her (also around 4 months). It was like anywhere the poop touched her skin it would turn bright red (not always, just occasionally). It completely stopped when I eliminated soy. Does you LO have any food issues you think?

R gets this if she eats tomato based pasta sauce. Have you had any?

I second teething as a culprit. We've noticed that D's entire butt (especially in his groin creases) gets INCREDIBLY red and raw-looking when he's teething. Your LO is only 16 weeks, so I assume not eating solids, but we cut back on acidic foods for D (esp berries and oranges) and switch him to disposable diapers with Boudreaux Butt Paste until it clears up. Obviously cutting the tooth is the "cure," but this seems to help take the edge off. If you're BFing, maybe try cutting back on your acids - tomatoes, pasta sauce, berries, citrus.

I know yours is too little for solids, but this happens when my daughter eats too many tomatoes, no matter how quickly I change her after pooping. We switch to disposables and lather on the destin (when she can't be naked). I feel so bad for her, she cries when we wipe or out her in the bath- the sores have even been open/bleeding occasionally. it's really sad.

Is LO showing any signs of teething? My girl had terrible nappy rash from acidic poo when she cut her molars and canines!

Our LO is 16 weeks old, and suddenly has this horrific looking rash on her bum. It doesn't look like what I thought diaper rash would look like ... It looks like acid was sprayed on her. There are 5 or 6 big spots (dime size), and several smaller spots. The nurse at the ped office called & said it's likely from acidic poop. Anyone else experience this?

We use cloth diapers, cloth wipes. We are treating with coconut oil, and cycling between a natural diaper rash cream, and another calendula ointment. Oh, and plenty of bare skin time.

Anyone have something like this turn out to be something else?

So scary when things happen for the first time. Gahhh!
