If a suppository isn't an option, but you know it's time to get it all out before the constipation gets bad, try a spoonful of mineral oil shaken up in a little cold orange juice. A pediatrician suggested that as it makes it veeeery difficult to withhold. We did the backing off and giving a diaper to poop, but when LO refuses to poop in the diaper either, this is better than ending up with a compacted bowel!

@anonysquire: mine had a huge side effect to suppository. So i also have taken a step back. She did a bit on potty after screaming of 1 hour.

@Jass: oh also I read that having them sit on the toilet every 30 mins and blow bubbles helps relax the poop muscles!

I really think poop issues are normal!!! Atleast that's what I've gathered from asking friends and family who have recently potty trained. My 2.5 year old went from being an everyday pooper to every couple of days. But she goes when she needs to and knows where to go. And I leave it at that. I was going to be gone for a couple hours so I made the mistake of giving her a suppository and she went!!! But also went an hour later and made a giant mess when I was gone. So I'm taking a step back and just letting her do it when she needs to. She's in undies full time and hasn't had a poop accident since. Good luck!!!

Ughhhhhhhhh my 3 year old absolutely will not poop in the potty. She will just poop in undies and carry on with her day or hold it in until she gets a diaper for nap. With a newborn baby, I paused the potty training for now but I dread the poop fight when we start up again in a couple of weeks.

My ped recommended giving a mild laxative every day for 30 days. He said there was no issue with DS taking one for so long and with time he would get into a routine of not being afraid to go.

I get it since we are about 2 weeks in and no successful poops on the potty, but personally I'd rather have her go in her undies or pull up than be constipated, which can start a whole host of issues. I'd just back off with poop and let her know if she needs a diaper to poop that's okay. You can't make them go on the potty, so I wouldn't try and turn it into a control thing.

We are 15 days into potty training my 2.5 year old and poop has become bane of my existence. Today is day 3 of no poop. She had pear juice, prune juice n lots of water. But man this girl has stomach of steel. I feel bad for her but don't want to go back to diapers.
