I wish I had a solution, but I'm often in the same boat. C pretty much only poops during naptime or overnight, and if he wakes up during nap with a poop, forget it. Nap over. I feel your pain!

@Eminthevalley: from someone who switched to one nap before my kid was ready and has paid dearly for my error, I say keep the two naps as long as humanly possible. Hang in there!!

@Mrs. Lion: @mrs. blue yes, a poop-nap-cycle support group is in order! Glad to know I'm not alone, even if no solution is in sight. Over the holiday weekend, I did alter their nap schedule, which helped, but it's not a permanent solution. I gave them a morning nap 9:15-9:45 or 10, then did an afternoon nap at 2. They went until about 3:30. Like I said, not a permanent solution, I don't think, but it was a nice couple of days...I did this because with family coming over and activities and whatnot, I wanted to make sure they got their sleep!

my LO went through a phase where his nap got cut short due to poop (around 21-ish months i think). but it was a phase and passed and he went back to pooping during awake times only. very rarely, if ever happens now.

My 11 month old always poops while napping, and it ruins sleep for her.

We offer a potty chair before naps (because that position can help with getting poop out), but it rarely works. Have you offered that?

We don't do dairy milk, so I doubt the issue is dairy (unless they have an allergy).

What about play time before nap? Maybe the extra running around will encourage him to poop earlier?

I feel your pain. Poop sucks! :)

Can you push naptime earlier to 11 am... then give them lunch after naps? I'm just wondering if they'll go down earlier for their nap since they wake up so early!

My DS is 21 months, but turning 22 months this month! His schedule is usually..

6:30 am - wakeup
7 am - breakfast
9 am - snack
11:30 pm - lunch
12-3 pm - nap
3:30 pm - snack
5:30 pm - dinner then playtime
6:30 pm - bath
7:30 pm - sleep

But when he wakes up earlier than this, he usually ends up napping earlier.. so on those days, I'll skip his lunch and feed him a hearty meal right when he wakes up.

I wish I could tell you an answer. My 21-month old twins do the same thing at least a few times a week. It's so frustrating. That said, they've had lots of other sleep issues, so even if it's not poop ruining nap, it's just the sleep regression from hell kicking in. Following to see if anyone has great answers!

Mamas, I'm in need of a schedule overhaul for my 22 month old twin boys. I posted in the sleep area about early wakings but I think the whole schedule is just not working for us. Here is what we currently do:
5-5:45 wake up
6:00 out of cribs, diapers changed, milk
6:30 breakfast
9:00 snack
11:15 lunch
11:45ish milk
12:15-12:30ish down for nap
1:50 twin B wakes w/ poop. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. He then proceeds to be crabby because this is not a super long nap for only having one nap a day.
3:00 snack
5:15 dinner
5:45 milk
6:00 bath, stories etc
6:30 bedtime, asleep by 7
A few notes--I can't get them to take milk with a meal, no matter what I do. So that's why milk is after meals. Thinking this should change? What can I do to stop the nap from being interrupted by poop? I mean, it is like clockwork! I have tried varying lunches with zero success. It's like the kid has an alarm built in.
