We just had to wait it out. It took him a couple months after being initially PT to poop on the potty regularly. The stain stick got a workout

@jh524: I thought about it for a while, because I was afraid it would backfire, but handing over a diaper when asked got LO aware of the need and communicating it to us instead of stealth pooping or withholding so it ended up being a win. Good luck!

Definitely a nice high stool. If you don't mind some low brow humor, try asking LO to listen for toots and put some toots in the potty. A surprising number of toddlers can fart on cue, and they think it's hilarious. This gets the mood relaxed and the right muscles working.
We used the slow approach with DS. We let him ask for a diaper to poop in. He always went behind a specific chair and played with a little toy. Once he was consistently asking for the diaper we started letting him have the diaper but he had to go in the bathroom. Then we started with sitting on the potty and listening for toots when he asked for a diaper. Then he just started taking himself.

Following!!

My lo starts to poop immediately upon waking in the morning and from nap. I can't get out of bed that fast! Anyone have suggestions for that?! He wakes up almost 20 minutes earlier than me in the morning too ;/

LO did this, but wouldn't poo in her panties in public (school and home were not problem). We were at a restaurant one day and she started freaking out because she really had to go. So I ran her to the bathroom. Our first successful poop on the potty was in the bathroom of a Tex Mex joint. She hasn't pooped in her panties since. Don't know how helpful that is...but there it is.

We were just here. There are a lot of good tips on this thread: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/day-2-of-potty-training-amp-no-poop

For us, LO was holding it and it got hard so it was a cycle. I had to pump her full of fiber and water to get her to start pooping regularly again. Even several 2 weeks later, we are out of the woods, but she has prunes and apple juice every day (yay sugar, ha) and we have pretty much quit cheese and bananas. We never had constipation issues before but her poops also weren't super soft, and it's harder to push out a poop sitting on a toilet than it is standing (her preferred method).

Like everyone says, it just takes time. She is 99% pee trained now but more like 75% poop trained. But I was sure a couple weeks ago she'd never poop in the potty and then one day she just did.

We're still struggling a bit with this ... but really, it's just about watching LO. I follow biological rhythms ... 20 minutes after she eats, she goes to sit on the potty. Also when she wakes up.

Will LO sit there for awhile? If you think she's due for a pop, grab a few books, and a stool (YES green grass is so right with this), and sit there until LO poops. Celebrate!!

I read a good super nanny article with some tips. One was to give them a stool to have their feet on. That seems to help my lo a little bit. My lo will poop anywhere at anytime, it's been a HUGE struggle to get him to go on the potty, but the only thing that has really worked is for me to watch him like a hawk when he's "due" and always rush him to the potty after a fart. Last night we had our first home success in two months (after moving)!! And he's also had one success at school. The process is soooo slooooooow!

We also have poo poo prizes that stay in the bathroom next to the toilet and we get them out and look at them while he's sitting and then put them back. And we also try not to have him sit too often or for too long (another supernanny rec).

how do you get your kid to poop on the potty??? oy. we potty trained last week (3 y/o) and she's generally pee trained. she'll have an accident if she's way too into playing to stop, but generally holds it fine until I take her to the bathroom.

however #2? different story. she'll even go in her underwear but somehow hold the pee! she doesn't care and won't go on the potty. gah.
