Sounds like the medicine. I took Tylenol 2s after my c section and got majorly backed up. Then I switched to lower dose of Motrin and it was like magic. I would call, no need to suffer

I'll just say it. I felt like I was birthing a log through the back door. I took Percocet too, plus I didn't go the whole 6 days I was in the hospital. It was rough, especially since I developed a hemorrhoid during pregnancy. It is still sometimes pretty painful, and I'm almost four weeks out from the c section.

What helped: taking the stool softeners I was given, LOTS of water, and also probiotics. I swore by probiotics while pregnant and credit them with combating the pregnancy constipation; they were really helpful postpartum, too. I also divided the iron pill - half in the morning and half later in the day. Iron, especially with Percocet, can cause serious constipation.

I would check with your doctor. I didn't have that problem after either of my c-sections.

I would definitely talk to your doctors about it and see what they can recommend or give you. I didn't have pooping issues post c-section (during pregnancy and taking zofran; now that's a different story!)

I'd suspect the percocet. I didn't take anything except advil and tylenol after my c-section and it was never painful for me. I did take stool softeners (on their recommendation) for like a week until I decided that was stupid because I wasn't having issues.

Someone in my centering pregnancy prenatal group had a C-section and had to spend a day in the ER a few days after the birth with an impacted stool blocking her colon due to severe constipation. She said it was more painful than labor. I can't even imagine. I hope you get some relief!

I only had this problem after my third csection. I think it was the iron and pain meds.

Sounds like it's the percocet. I would try a combo of prune juice and colace and definitely mention it to your doctor. It's hard enough recovering from a c-section without the extra pain!

I think the Percocet could be a major factor. I was off of it by the 3rd day and only the first poop was painful. I'm suprised they didn't send you home with a painkiller that was a little lighter. I was given Tylenol 3

After my second son, I had no problems. I pooped the day after having him and it was like nothing ever happened.

I just had a c section last week and the first few days were brutal in terms of gas/needing to poop. I actually ended up asking my nurse for a suppository, which helped a lot, so that's one option. One week out today, and things are much better...I would call if you're still having a lot of pain. Good luck - this is one side effect I wasn't prepared for!

Oh no!! That sounds awful, I would definitely mention it, make a big deal about it so they give you something that helps. I had two c-sections and no pain going poop. I hope they can sort it out for you!

@lovehoneybee: I had a vaginal birth with xs and a c section with dd and pooping after the c section was a breeze compared to after the vaginal birth. And I was taking all the painkillers they gave me.

I would at least check with your doctor to be sure. I pooped for the first time a couple days post-section and I didn't have any pain at all. Nor did I have any issues after that (and I was also taking Percocet). Based on my experience, I'd say it is at least worth asking about.

I did not have a c-section so can't completely relate, but just had a pretty traumatic delivery resulting in level 4 medio-lateral episiotomy. The post-partum pooping was harder than the actual delivery. I found that the only way I was able to go was by filling a sitz bath with very warm water and sitting it. It was a pretty tedious process because I would have to keep emptying and refilling the sitz bath as I went along, and it often took me an hour "to go." But it truly was the only thing that made it bearable. Until that point I was literally crying and screaming when I tried to go. Hope you find relief soon.

It hurt so bad. The first time was absolute torture. It was at least a month, maybe longer before I stopped dreading it. It was awful.

I asked about it too on here after I had my c-section and I've heard that it's fairly normal. Def ask your doc though and hopefully they can help you out.

Milk of magnesia! Stool softener + laxative. After my c-section it took me about a week to poop. It's very common. The painkillers make you so constipated. Stool softener alone weren't enough for me. Milk of magnesia helped a lot.

Did pooping hurt? How long until it made you not want to cry? A week post-op tomorrow, and I'm still taking Percocet a few times a day (my incision still hurts a lot), and I know that's binding things up, as well as an iron pill (my iron levels plummeted fast after). I'm taking stool softeners, and so far I've pooped 3 times and every time has left me crying hard (gas pain still hurts a ton, too, and peeing, to a lesser extent).

Is this normal? Is it the Percocet? I do for a follow-up tomorrow and it's pretty much at the top of my questions list, but I'm wondering how normal it is. It hurt after I had E, after a second degree tear on top of an episiotomy, but nothing like this. This has been the worst part of the recovery, by far...
