Thank you everyone. Im not breastfeeding so I'm good in that department. Im on medication that doesn't allow me. I'm not too worried about weight loss at the moment but I know soon I'll start working on it. I just was wondering cause I know how I've been in the past. I have the worst discipline. Once I get cleared to work out then I plan on doing some yoga and pilates at first. I can't walk right now cause I do not have a stroller for 3 kids. My oldest are almost 2 and almost 3 Haha. My husband and I want to get an elliptical or something so we can work out during spare time. But all this being said I'm trying to give myself grace and just let things happen. I just wish I was more disciplined in general. Its something I'm working on.

I actually did my first IF yesterday. I'm trying 11am to 7pm as well. I've heard IF has great health benefits. As I said my best friend does it and loves it. My husband also did it once before and is doing it again with me. First day was hard cause I just wanted to snack but I actually managed to not eat and just drank water during my fast and was proud of myself.

For me, the jogging stroller is my god send. But obviously it doesn't work until the baby is old enough for it...Not sure how old your three are, and whether the oldest would be able to come along on a scooter or bike while you pushed the younger two....

For me, exercise just wouldn't happen if it was time away from DS... I choose my running routes to keep DS entertained :silly: There's a bike path along commuter rail tracks and usually a train or two speed by, which he adores. And then a nature preserve where we can spot some gophers, etc (he thinks they are bunnies, his all time favorite animal, I don't need to correct him :silly: ). Or run to a playground, stop and play, and then run back. Even in the winter, he loves getting out. We have this super warm sleeping bag and a wind shield for the stroller.

For me, it's all about mindset. I'm not going to deny myself completely, but I'm going to be mindful of what I put in my body. Start with small changes. For example, we ordered pizza last night. Instead of having multiple slices (I could easily put away 4-5!), I had one slice and salad topped with some of the pepperoni my kids pulled off theirs. Instead of soda I've been drinking sparkling water.

I keep the fridge stocked with veggies, hummus, fruit and cheese. Already sliced/washed/portioned, etc. It makes it easy to grab something healthy when I need a snack. Instead of buying a gallon of ice cream I buy these for when I want something sweet (I don't usually eat one every day)

https://www.bluebunny.com/flavors/bunny-snacks

For exercise, I make myself get up between 4-4:30am. The only way I am going to work out is if I do it before the kids get up, although my youngest has been waking up between 5-5:30 before I am done. If that happens I have no shame in turning on a cartoon and handing him a bowl of cheerios (he is 2.5). I'm starting week 7 of a 13 week program and I'm proud to say I have not skipped a day! Even when my kids wake up during the night, I still keep my alarm and get up to knock out my workout. The workouts are 6 days a week and vary from 30 minutes to an hour, it's been hard but at the same time I can already see the changes in my body. In the first 4 weeks I lost 10" all over! That is definite motivation.

@cyoung: Oh gosh, at 6 weeks postpartum I don't think you should be so hard on yourself! I'm not saying you should eat garbage and not move your body - but I think there is still a LOT going on in terms of hormones and recovery that makes dieting or losing weight a bit out of your control. The lack of sleep makes you crave sugar and carbs. Nursing made my sweet tooth and my legitimate hunger out of control!

My advice is to be kind to yourself first and foremost. I will say the best thing I ever did to lose the baby weight was cold turkey cut out sugar... in everything. No ketchup. No fake sugars. No BBQ with sugar. Nothing. I dropped about 8 pounds in a month. Also, see a PT for safe ways to help start repairing your abdominal wall - so many exercises can make it worse.

I HIGHLY recommend personal training. If I've paid for it and I know someone is waiting for me, I'm going! I've stuck to twice a week for the past 8 weeks and even did some on my own because exercise feels good to me now. I think exercise is a great way to start because even though it can be awful during the after high is amazing! So you are getting a benefit 30 minutes later and reducing calories is miserable for weeks until you see a benefit

@crazydoglady: I think 16:8 too. I def noticed weight loss, tho not drastic as I've seen in some people. My original plan was do stick with IF and get into a good rhythm for maybe 6 months, then tweak my diet, and lastly introduce some form of exercise. My plans just got derailed as I got pregnant probably 3-4 months into IF.

IF was what I wanted to suggest too! I had been doing that for a few months before I got pregnant. I also could never stick to ANYTHING (esp with kids, I just have no energy to be disciplined) but I felt like IF was a very very easy place to start.

@cyoung: Grace to yourself which I struggle with. I am 2 weeks post and had LO1 2 years ago. My body isn’t where i want it to be but grace. Lots of water and walking. Veggies, salads and fruits- I snack a lot. Look into a protein shake or make your own for a meal replacement- Healthy eating is key and getting out and breaking a sweat! I also invested in bellefit for both my pregnancies. Although it’s pricey, it worked.... It has helped with my diastis recti( sorry for typos) :/ and bringing back my tummy pre pregnancy. Also, has helped with my posture and just pulling everything together.

I couldn’t find anything that gave specifics of what might hurt supply (and I’m sure it’s person to person). Honestly I could probably see benefit from sticking closely to 12hr like a normal human until I wean - no snacking after dinner ...

@crazydoglady: yep ! You can pick any 8 hour window that you like. During your fast you can have as much black coffee, water, unflavoured sparkling water, plain teas, etc as you like.... but you should refrain from anything with flavour (gum, mints, diet pop, cream/sugar in coffee etc). It optimizes the benefits and helps keep you from getting hungry during a fast. You can, of course, enjoy cream/sugar, diet pop, etc during your eating window.

@charm55: Thank you for explaining! I thought I was reading it wrong. So, 12-8 would be appropriate? I've been having digestive problems when I eat right before bed (which is my way of chilling out before bed) and am so busy with work I don't get hungry until noon anyway. I do have coffee in the morning tho. a huge one.

@crazydoglady: Its a bit hard to explain, but when I eat I will now get “full” and want to stop eating long before I traditionally have felt full (ie stuffed). The fasting community calls it “appetite correction”. The idea is basically fasting will reset your appetite to its natural form. I never would have believed it (especially for me!) had I not experienced it myself.

Skipping breakfast is the easiest way to start. I just kept waiting an extra 30 mins to eat until I was at 16 hours fasted and then stayed with that schedule for quite some time.

This blog post kind of sums up where I am now... I started for the weight loss but now I don’t really care if lose another pound because I truly believe there’s other great health benefits.

My biggest problem in staying disciplined is my kids, honestly. My willpower is not good when I'm exhausted and I have a hard time being motivated to work out after bedtime when I've already been up since 4am with the kids and I'm exhausted. Sucks. 😩

@crazydoglady: I’ve lost about 15 out of the 20 lbs Id like to lose. The first 2 weeks was the hardest but your body adjusts very quickly and your appetite corrects itself to you learn to eat before you get full. It’s really bizarre. I have the world’s biggest sweet tooth (seriously) and still don’t recognize myself when I reach for banana over a cookie. But the best part of fasting is I totally can have cookies if I want!

@bhbee: I started with 16:8, so 16 hours fasting 8 hours eating. Usually I would eat from 11am-7pm. That helped curb my night snacking and really made a big difference in resetting my hunger signals.

Now I mostly do 18:6 on weekends and 20:4 on the weekdays. Some days its shorter if I’m really hungry , or I might go longer if I’m not hungry. I move my window around depending on what I have planned. It’s very flexible.

I recommend the book Delay, Dont Deny by Gin Stephens. It’s fantastic.

I really like intermittent fasting. I’ve been doing it for 8 months now which is the longest I’ve stuck to anything. I can eat whatever I want, just in a certain time window. It feels very easy and natural now. Besides the weight loss, I also have a lot more energy, crave less junk and feel better overall.

@cyoung: Take it slow. Don't try to overhaul all of your diet and all of your fitness at once. Pick one thing in each area you'd like to work on. Focus on that and only that for one week. You may decide week 1 is going to involve a walk everyday and to log everything that goes into your mouth. Notice you aren't committing to walk a certain distance or to eat certain things. Your job is just to SHOW UP for the entire week.

When you got to week 2, you will have really great data for your week 2 goals. Are you ready to set a distance/steps/time goal for your daily walk? Are you ready to research quick, healthy breakfast ideas or perhaps ready to get a food scale off Amazon to reframe your idea of a serving? Your food log will help you decide.

Try visually tracking your progress. For each walk you get a marble in a jar or an x in a box. Put your tracker in a prominent place. Tell people who will support you. Don't tell people who won't help you create a supportive environment.

I have started and failed many times. I read Atomic Habits recently and this approach has been longer lasting, less overwhelming and more successful. Wanted to share incase it resonated with you.

So I'm almost 6 weeks postpartum. I'm ready to get in shape. I know itll be a long journey. My body is sooooo out of shape csuse I've been pregnant back to back for almost 4 years. I've gained a lot of weight and my stomach muscles are bad and I'm pretty sure I have a bad case of diastasis recti.

Anyway I have in the past tried to wat super healthy and lose weight but my discipline is garbage. I get burnt out easily and it's hard to stay focused and complete stuff for me. Any tips on weight loss/ getting in shape and staying motivated and disciplined.
