Cosco Scenara Next! Britax clicktight seats are great for an easy installation but definitely bigger.

We just bought the Cosco Senera next dxl for air and traveling. Very affordable for an occasional use car seat and only 10 lbs. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Scenera-Next-DLX-Convertible-Car-Seat-Moon-Mist/41126745

@periwinklebee: The https://csftl.org/chicco-fit2-review/ seems to indicate that the Stage 1/infant can be used for the entire height and weight limit of the seat. The Stage 2/toddler base-only angle makes the seat more upright, but, doesn't allow for a taller or heavier kid.

It won’t help you now, but I keep seeing ads for a new portable car seat called Pico by the company Wayb that’ll be on the market soon. It looks interesting but it’s designed for 2-5 year olds. By the time your LO is 2, it will probably be out and have some reviews, so maybe keep it in mind.

We have used our Cosco Scenera NEXT in plenty of cabs while traveling, and while it’s not the MOST convenient, after some practice I find it pretty easy to get a good, quick seatbelt install. I’ve always found the LATCH hopeless though, but IMO the seatbelt is quicker anyway. It’s light and the price can’t be beat. In your situation, I’d probably get one for now and then switch to a more convenient option once your LO meets the criteria.

@lilyofthewest: I thought for Chicco Fit2 infant&toddler seat, you have to use the base in order to get it in the toddler position? Otherwise you don't get the extra height limit over just having an infant seat... but I may have misunderstood the reviews. I haven't personally tried it.

I looked into this as we are in a similar situation re uber/lyft and didn't find much beyond Immi Go that I could imagine lugging around in addition to LO for doctors appts, etc. The height/weight restrictions overlap with those on infant seats and Uber rates it for one year and up, but it is forward facing only. Curious to see if anyone here has found a good alternative...

The Chicco Fit2 infant&toddler seat will probably give you many more months of the convenience of a seatbelt install. It fits most kids up to around age 2. Depending on how tall your kid is, it may be able to use this right until the point where you can use a very compact & light (front-facing only) seat like the Immi Go. Unfortunately, the lightest convertible seats (eg Cosco Scenera Next) aren't known for having quick or easy installs.

We just received our new car seat for our 1 year old. The Maxi Cozi Pri. I love the way it looks and feels, but holy cow it’s huge! It will stay in our car.

My dilemma is that me and LO tend to take Ubers and drive with family and friends quite frequently. We also travel a ton. I can’t drive due to a seizure disorder. It was easy with the infant car seat because we just brought the seat into the house everyday and I strap it in with the seatbelt in other’s cars. Dragging around the heavy convertible car seat is less than ideal

Are there any small, light convertible car seats to use for travel?
