I had one csec and one vbac and I prefer my csec recovery over the vbac! I breastfed her well (if you're worried about that), bonded perfectly fine. Labor is no fun. It's like a marathon where you cannot control your own pace. Want a break? Too bad.<br /> I had a ton of guilt after my first. Did I acquiesce to the induction when I should have waited? Did I cave for an epidural too soon? We tried hard for a natural unmedicated birth for three days. I hardly remember L's first day because I was so out of it from sleep deprivation. The nurses had to clue me in to change her diaper and care for her.<br /> With C I debated VBAC but as I got closer and closet to my due date without progress and another LGA baby. We went ahead with the section. I was home comfortably in my own bed 29 hours later. The second surgery was so completely different from my first. My recovery had always been easy but walking in as a well rested lady was totally different. I knew Liv was in good hands and that was huge to me.<br /> With A I probably would be incontinent for life if I had waited to push her out. I often think that a section with C wasn't totally necessary but had a VBACed with her I would have pushed to do so with A and that would have been the worst. In thankful now that C was a section though I wouldn't have said that at the time.</p> <p>She will be here soon and you both will be healthy. But from another perspective, if it makes you feel any better - I barely remember anything about either of my labors. I can't really remember what a contraction feels like, I don't remember the pain (though I did have epi's for both), it was like a weird foggy memory even though I was totally with it the whole time. So, it may not be all you dreamed for it to be. I'll echo pp and say that my recovery was pretty easy considering it was major surgery, the convenience was nice, and by the second time, I knew what to expect. The OR nurses and anesthesiologists are amazing at my hospital and kept me calm even though I was nervous. </p> <p>I know everyone is different, but because both of mine were scheduled, I've never felt a contraction or been in labor. It was planned and honestly, I didn't (and don't) know anything other than a c-section. The staff was kind, the planner in me loved it, and my son was safely delivered. I know that sounds cliche, but the end of my pregnancy was a little harrowing and in the end I realized I didn't really care how he got there - I just cared that he was there and safe. While I think a VBAC sounds interesting, I will totally have another c-section again if necessary. </p> <p>Other pluses:<br /> - I can comfortably go running and do jumping jacks without peeing myself<br /> - Scars are cool (and I like telling obnoxious people that try to parent my son that I'm pretty sure *I'm* his Mama and have the scar to prove it)<br /> - Convenience is nice -- especially when having the second and planning for childcare<br /> - It's a known scenario to you -- this isn't your first rodeo! You know the drill.... get up and walk as soon as they will let you and stay in front of the meds, etc etc</p> <p>Even though it was a cut and dry case (he was breeched, I was a bleeder), I still have doubts. I wish I had requested an ultrasound right before my c-section just to confirm he was still breeched. Arrived at 5am, had a baby in my arms by 7, using the bathroom the next morning (if you know what I mean), home by 6pm the following day! Easy recovery, never took any pain meds after I left the hospital, felt about 80% fine within days. </p> <p>By contrast my next door neighbour, who had a baby a week earlier, had fourth degree tearing and needed two subsequent surgeries. </p> <p>I'm sorry you're having a hard time with it, though. I know how you feel, I also had my heart set in a VBAC and ended up having a second c because he was breech. We're done at 2 and when I think about it I feel pretty sad that I never got to even feel a contraction. I didn't know until Monday that a csection was definitely in the cards for us, and I keep swinging back and forth on how I feel about it.</p> <p>On one hand, I trust my OB and his judgement (she's looking big, I'm small). I'm also past my due date and very ready to no longer be pregnant. On the other hand, I'm sad to miss out again on the birthing experience, and knowing if we have a third, that won't even be an option. I'm also worried that she'll end up measuring a normal size, and I'll be filled with regret.</p> <p>I feel like we're making the best choice with the information in front of us, so I'm trying to block out all the others telling me this is the wrong choice. I'd love to take in positive csection stories and focus on those and the fact I'll have a baby girl in my arms tomorrow morning! </p>
