@graceandjoy: my 6 month old woke up this morning with what looked like the beginning of pink eye. But the doctor said it was allergic conjunctivitis and not the contagious type

We’ve only dealt with conjunctivitis twice I think, and it didn’t spread in the family either time. Just make sure to wash you hands as much as possible and don’t touch your own eyes.

And I know when it’s been questionable my pediatrician was willing to give us drops just in case. In your situation I’d probably start them to make sure you are ok for the wedding. It could also be allergies (which I’ve been told don’t start before 2) or a cold but I figure the drops won’t hurt and after 24 hours in them she’s safe to go to school and stuff, I believe.

Same advice above about washing everything. Do it every day. And I would take your kid today asap. You can get drops. My kids have been getting conjunctivitis every time they get a cold. And, now, so have I. Ugh. Good luck. I hope it clears up quick and, with the drops, it should.

@graceandjoy: yeah I tried really hard not to get it but I got it a week after my son’s had cleared up. I’m also preggo so maybe my immune system couldn’t fight it off. He had it really bad, crusted and red for a few days.

I would just wash everything once and then change out her pillow case if she uses a pillow- nightly if possible.

Yes, I would wash everything. I do every Friday anyway just to minimize germs and bacteria. However, if she has it you definitely want to wash and wipe things down to minimize the spread.

@graceandjoy: LO has similar symptoms. I took him in and they gave me drops. His eye was never pink or swollen shut but just crusty and teary. He has a cold at the time. It stopped everything in about a day or two.

@magnolia: Ohh man! We've never had it, didn't realize it's so contagious! But do I change the pillowcases/sheets DAILY then!?

She is only 2 so I haven't had many years of observing whether she has allergies... DH says it could be allergies. The worrier in me says this is def the beginning of pink eye, lol.

Great, at this point I'd have it the b/c I keep wiping her eye with my finger!!

Thanks for letting me know about OTC ones; I think I'm gonna bring her in tonight and if they don't give me anything, I'll get those just in case.

@graceandjoy: we just went through a bout of pink eye at my house

I would wash all pillowcases, towels and bedsheets as a precaution. Get some sanitary single use eyelid wipes at the pharmacy and clean her eyes with those. Also have her wash her hands as much as possible.

Antibiotics drops will only work if it’s bacterial. If it’s viral or allergies then the prescribed drops don’t make a difference. Does she have any allergies generally ?

I have tried the over the counter homeopathic drops as well (similasan)

I hope it clears up! Pink eye sucks

We're suspecting LO might have beginning stage of pink eye; a little more teary than usually, a little more gunk, but hasn't work up all crusted up or anything. If I take her to the doctor now, would they give me the drops? We're in a wedding on Sat so I really want to nip this in the butt. I already called our doctor and just waiting for a call back; just wondering what other people's experiences have been!
