I have PCOS and ended up getting pregnant after almost two years of trying. After I had our LO and was talking to my dr about birth control options, I half jokingly said if it took another two years and that would be about right spacing for us. And she said that often a successful pregnancy is somewhat of a "reset button" for PCOS.

@FaithFertility: I wasn't doing iui but I had the same experience on clomid my first go-round. Changing dose may have helped me (or maybe it was luck) and I know another with multiple cps who had luck using injectibles. Unfortunately 50% or so of rpl is unexplained so it's a tough road :/ I feel like we just try stuff and hope for the best.
It's so hard when you can't trust your bfps. Wishing you lots of luck next time you try!!

Also, regarding the adoption when you have several already, my cousin was in the beginning stages of adopting when she already had 3 of her own. She is now about to have an oops baby, so they had to put it off, but they're still considering adoption and there seems to be no concern about them already having 4.

Me... I had what sounds like a similar diagnosis as you. Long cycles/PCOS/ no ovulation. We did a year of trying unassisted then did about 6 unsuccessful cycles of meds and then I quit and moved to adoption. I got pregnant with my twins without any interventions after about 2.5 years of trying (I had just turned 28 when they were born) a ear later when we decided to stop protecting and are what happens I got pregnant right away. So we had four kids in three years. Kind of crazy but it's possible.

I think pregnancy can change your PCOS. I was thought to have PCOS but never sought treatment and eventually got pregnant on my own. Now I'm pregnant with my second after the first try. Even if your PCOS doesn't improve after the first pregnancy there is also the increased chance of multiples with fertility treatments.
My mom probably also had PCOS but at the time never sought any diagnosis or treatments. I don't even know what was available at the time. They never prevented and ended up with 3 in 9.5 years. First was born when she was almost 26. If she could have 3 without intervention I'm sure you could have your large family!

@FaithFertility: well I keep having them and despite lots of testing we don't know why. But clomid worked for me before the fourth time I tried it so we're going that route again. My guess is something isn't quite right with my hormones on their own and taking meds helps. I have an iui tomorrow morning so hoping to get lucky this cycle!

I had a hard time getting pregnant with DS. I would go alomst a year at times without AF, and when it came time to TTC, I had to also resort to clomid.

Since he was born, my cycles were pretty much "jump started" and now I just have to pay close attention during a cycle and I can get pregnant.

If I want a large family, it would be no issue for me, now. I have a feeling you may be the same way! Once your body goes through pregnancy, your may hormones finally check in and know what's up. :)

I think it's not uncommon for fertility to be 'jump started' after the first pregnancy. And you have tons and tons of time, I don't see any reason why you couldn't have a large family!

ME! I have PCOS and three kids - also had my first at 27, and I'd be willing/able to go for one more (I'm quite a bit older now lol) ... I know a lot of women who have 3 or 4 kids who have all had treatments for infertility (for every pregnancy) and I have never met a single person who has been refused treatment because they have "too many kids" ;)

I have one friend who did IVF for her first pregnancy, ended up with twins, and then conceived her third child as an oops. I have another friend who used IVF for her first singleton, and then conceived her next two children without assistance. Both had PCOS. I don't know too much about infertility, but I've heard that sometimes a first pregnancy to term can some women with PCOS conceive in the future, sort of jump starting cycles etc?

it's definitely possible to still get there, but I'd say you have to feel it out as you go. I always wanted 3 but now that we are starting treatments for #2 I am wondering if I ever want to do this again (of course I'm sure I will feel differently on the other side, if things work out).
there are also definitely people (myself included) for whom ovulatory/PCOS problems get better after carrying to term, some kind of hormonal reset. I still have issues related to chemical pregnancies but I now ovulate every month at least, and I know many who had so much trouble with #1, started trying early for #2 and got pregnant pretty quickly.
which is to say you never know but there are many ways to get there if you want more kids!

@Sunshine1810: In Canada (well at least at my RE), they cancel the cycle if they see more than 3 mature follicles so I doubt I'll ever have more than 3 babies at a time (which is probably not a bad thing, lol)!

Just wanted to say you never know if you might end up with multiples from one pregnancy! Not sure if you're open to adoption in the future, but that might be a way to get the big family you want if you reach a point where you can no longer try for additional pregnancies. Good luck!

You all probably know my story: PCOS, long cycles, no ovulation without medication. My treatment plan is going to include monitoring, clomid, ovidrel and progesterone supplements. At this point I'm pretty confident that I will get pregnant once I am being monitored and treated. I'm very happy about that because, well, at least I will have that one baby one way or another. I am grateful for that.

However, my husband and I always wanted to have a larger family of 4-5 children and I worry now that that will just be too hard. I'm nearly 27 now and I assume it will get harder and harder to have children as I get older, even with treatment, and it's already so hard as it is. I also worry that maybe the Canadian government won't treat me after I've had 2-3 children... I don't see a lot of hope that I will ever conceive without medical intervention.

Does anyone know of any cases where someone with PCOS/Infertility went on to have 3+ children with treatments? Is it unrealistic of me to hope that we could still have the large family we planned? Is adoption my only option if I want to have 4 or 5 kids? Will they even let you adopt if you already have 2 or 3 kids?

Anyone else with Infertility have dreams of a large family?
