we had this a couple weeks ago. started with a runny nose, etc. i called the doc because we were also out of town and about to go camping for a couple days! he said if it got worse, then to take her in, but it wasn't an emergency. he said to use a warm compress every time she woke up and my nurse friend said to spray breast milk in there too. i did this for about a week and it waned between better and worse and then finally cleared up.

i just made sure not to touch my eyes after touching her and kept her as clean as possible. she didn't seem worse for the wear though and even though an ointment may have cleared it, i'm okay with it running it's course! good luck!

Thanks ladies. Appreicate your responses. I think I may just try to call first.
Its pretty excessive goop. If I werent at work I would upload a pic. When she wakes up she cant open her eyes. I have to soak with a warm rag to moisten and wipe away before she can open them. Feel so horrible for her.

the first time LO got sick, we thought it might be pink eye because of discharge and a little pinkness around the upper and lower eyelids, but it turned out it was a bad head cold and the congestion was causing his tear ducts to back up.

when he did get pink eye, he woke up with major, major crustiness--like nothing i had seen before, almost a little shelf of crusted mucus sticking out from both upper and lower lashes. we got a prescription ointment that cleared it up.

your poor LO! we used a saline rinse (which LO hated) and a snot sucker a ton when he had that cold, and let him sleep all the time. it's no fun though.

When my guy got pink eye the first time, our doctor also said it might be a blocked duct. However, she gave us a prescription and said if it didn't clear up in a day or so (or got worse), to use the ointment. After 2 days it was still goopy, so we used the ointment. It didn't seem to bother him at all (he never rubbed his eyes!) and they weren't red, but the medicine cleared it right up. I'd go back (or just call!) for a "just in case" prescription.

I'm definitely no expert, but my DD has had what we assume is a clogged tear duct since she was born (she is 14 months now). She does get a lot of gross yellow discharge from that eye, particularly when she's sick with a cold/cough, etc. so it sounds like it could be that. We just use polysporin eye ointment on it when it flares up. However, I was under the impression that if she had a clogged tear duct, she would have had it since birth and you would know about it (I'm not sure how old your LO is)? But I could be totally wrong. Sorry, not very helpful advice, since LO has never had pinkeye so I couldn't tell you what the difference is, but hopefully it's not that. Hoping she feels better soon and that you can get some better information before your trip!

To add: I did catch the Doc in the hallway and asked if she was OK with her "Sinus infection" to fly. He said "It will suck, and it will hurt her but she can, good luck with that"

Yeah wow. THANKS!

OK ladies, I need some mommy advice here.
So LO started to get sick on Tuesday. I stayed home from work with her Tuesday and Wednesday. I had an appt Tuesday for myself and our doc looked at her and thought it was just viral. Wednesday it was worse and I brought her into urgent care because I couldnt get an appt. Military hospital and budget cuts means ONE stinking doctor for all of urgent care. Waited forever, and then the doc came in and said it was a blocked tear duct and a sinus infection. He spent maybe all of two mins with us and then rushed back off. No meds. Said just let it work itself out.
Im not convinced. He barely looked at her. She has sooooo much yellow goop coming out of her eyes. However, her whites of the eyes arent pink, but the lower lids are. Thinking I may take her back in tonight. He cleared her to go back to daycare. Will feel so awful if I just exposed all her kids in daycare. I know google is not a doctor but everything says pink eye online. Except for her whites not being pink, but her lower lids are like they say. With her cold symptoms it sounds like what they call Viral pink eye.

Any moms with an experience like this, or Pink eye with not pink in the white part of the eyes? Or was the too busy to take his time Doctor correct and its a blocked tear duct? Thanks for taking the time to read my rambles. Just freaking out a bit because we are going on Vacation tomorrow for 10 days. Feel so horrible to have her travel like this when she is so miserable.

Sorry that got so long. Ugh!
