Our dogs are small (6 lbs and 12 lbs) so we don't have to buy much food. We also got the second one neutered with the free vet clinic in town (pretty sweet deal, it's actually done at one of the local vet hospitals who just donate their time/services to the free clinic. You have to schedule it 5 months in advance but it was so much cheaper! We also used to get their shots done there. And once they're both housetrained, it's NOT double the work... it's barely 1.25 times the work, since feeding 2 dogs and walking 2 dogs is not much more work than one dog.
