Yes! I was in the hospital for 5 days total, and 4 of those stuck in bed hooked up to an IV. All the fluid from the IV settled in my lower half. I looked like the Michelin man leaving the hospital. Eventually, the swelling in my hips went down but not in my calves, ankles, or feet. I couldn't even wear my husband's shoes. My OB wasn't too concerned about the swelling at my follow-up visit. For me, it was so bad and never did go away on its own. About 2 weeks post surgery I started to develop a bad itchy rash around the swelling. I went back to the OB and got a prescription for a diuretic, and that finally cleared it up after a couple of days. I had bad swollen feet throughout my pregnancy and developed pre-eclampsia in the last week. I was so looking forward to seeing my normal feet again after delivery, so it was really upsetting to be even MORE swollen after the c-section than I was during pregnancy.

With my 1st it was really bad. It took probably 3 weeks for the swelling to go down. I was also super swollen with him during the pregnancy and then it just worsened after the c section. My legs looked they would have popped if you stuck a pin in them.

@mediagirl: I had it really bad and out took a few weeks to come down. Keeping your feet up and plenty of fluids help

I took Pamprin Extra Strength around the clock. It has a diuretic that helps reduce swelling.

I had this with both of my vaginal
Deliveries. It was awful
Tips: compression stockings.
Elevate your feet (and they have to be higher than your heart for this to work. So prop those puppies up)
Ankle pumps
As much walking as you can tolerate
Red flags are warmth or redness in the calf and/or extreme tenderness or pain in the calf.

Both times I had a nurse visit a couple days after going home and I remember the nurse commenting (both times) about how my legs looked so good/Unswollen (is that a word? Haha). However, I have chicken legs normally so they were definitely still quite bigger than normal. So it takes some time - I also remember nurses telling me the more I walked the more the swelling will go down.

@Kaohinani: you are so complimentary! I typically have chicken legs, so these are ridiculous for me.

@PurplePumps: yeah, I just went up stairs and my husband called to ask if I needed him because I was taking so long...

Yup! It appeared suddenly at day 3 after birth. I went home at the same weight as I went in, after having an almost 9 lb baby. It took about 10 days to go away and I found nothing helped but time.

Oh yea, it was bad. 2 days after giving birth I was still UP 12 lbs from my 39 week check... after having a 8.5 lb baby. I could barely go up/down stairs cause I couldnt bend my ankles at all. My bloating was bad until day 5 or 6... then by 7 or 8, I'd lost 30 lbs of fluids and the bloat was finally gone.

Wow, your legs look phenomenal after having had a c-section! I had pre-eclampsia with both of mine and I looked as though I had elephantiasis of the the trunk (* lower limbs) for 2 weeks following the birth of my DD and 5 days after DS! DH nicknamed me his "lovely sausage" (& I could have kicked him if I could have lifted my swollen legs that high! 😉🤣😂). Mind you, 5 days after DD, I lost 40 lbs of fluid out of the 70 I gained during my pregnancy AND I was STILL swollen like the Goodyear Blimp! (I'm 5 ft 2 and normally fluctuate from 105-115... 70 lbs was crazy.) I still had balloon legs! 🎈😩 Anyway, yours look amazing post surgery. Keep them elevated, drink lots of fluids to flush out the toxins, and try massage for circulation and warm salt baths for your lower legs (don't sit in it with your CS scar still healing).

Yep! It was so awful. I drove myself to the hospital on day 4 because I was convinced something was dangerously wrong. The er doctor basically laughed me out and she told me not to worry and it would go down.

It probably took 1.5 weeks for my legs and feet to be normal looking. Apparently drinking lots of water helps. When I walked it felt like my feet were going to burst.

@mediagirl: mine went down some in the hospital at about 3-4 days post c section. I was all excited, then my doctor busted my bubble and said it would get worse again. He was right, but they went down for good around a week from c section (6-8 ish days, but I can't remember)

Did anyone else experience bad swelling in your legs and feet after c-section? The nurses said it was normal, what they saw in the hospital and warned me it would get worse before it got better. They definitely got worse!

If you experienced this, when did it get better?? At 9pm, I'll be 5 days out from surgery.

My socks don't fit! 😂
