Symptoms – excessive crying, feeling that I wasn’t bonding with LO at all, overwhelming desire to run away, just leave, etc. I thought I had PPD since I felt like what I was feeling was “not normal”. My OB confirmed that I had PPD, and that PPD is very common.

Treatment – counseling and anti-depressants

I had a pretty bad case of baby blues until my son was 6 weeks old. It was primarily related to the fact that he was low birth weight, breastfeeding was difficult, and I was always stressed about how much he was eating. I cried almost every day for awhile. Once I started exclusively pumping and bottle feeding at 6 weeks, I felt much much better. Great, actually. So, I'm not sure if I actually had PPD or if it was just stress related to feedings.

I didn't have depression, but I had horrible anxiety. I was always afraid of something terrible happening (tornado, earthquake, someone breaking in the house and killing us, getting into a car accident) and I just couldn't handle living in fear. I saw a therapist who suggested meds, but I didn't want meds so we just did talking therapy and after about 5 sessions I felt much better. She gave me the Pregnancy and Postpartum Anxiety Workbook which also helped a lot. I wasn't even aware there was such a thing as postpartum anxiety!

I felt totally numb half the time and was bawling the other half. I had no desire to bond with my baby. I didnt even want to get out of bed.

Mine was a good deal related to my traumatic labor and delivery and the stress of trying and failing to breastfeed.

I would think of horrible senarios in my head. I was also sad, no matter what, like weighed down. It felt much like depression in general. Mine just went away on its own. I take anti-depressants though as it is, so that may have helped. I also confided in my mom. I was too ashamed to tell my DH.

I would wake up already feeling overwhelmed and overwrought and unhappy. Mine was totally related to a lack of sleep.

There is a support thread on here where many women talk about what they went through....signs,symptoms, actions, medication and/or other treatments and success of those treatments. Here it is: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/postpartum-depression-support-thread#post-366919
