@MrsTiz: I think it is cute, but it does look like a shirt over a suit to me. I'm having post partum bathing suit issues too, I got stretch marks on my outer thighs and I really don't know how to hide them!

@MrsTiz: I'm with you. I saw this and have been debating buying it because I feel like it hides my tummy flub but is not frumpy. I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on anything more expensive, I'm soo cheap!

@septca, ah this one isn't so bad. It's got pretty good structure. But i dislike regular style swimsuits like that b/c i feel like they look like bras! Can't win :silly:

@Foodnerd81: Athelta runs true to size, I have both the swimsuit tops as well as the regular bra tops and they're perfect matches to my bra size (I wear a 36 C).

@blackbird: Totally agree with you. I *hate* halters because I have to tie them so tight that they make my neck and head ache. I love the Athleta suits because they have normal straps that are adjustable so you can make them really tight.

@foodnerd, yeah, that's a possibility! For me, I don't like to be 100% covered up or I feel too frumpy. I feel very "in" this swimsuit, though, and I'm an E cup. Plus, i tie that halter TIGHT. If you want something that holds well, you might want to try an Athleta style swimsuit--one made for working out in would be pretty snug! I've gone playing with E in this and honestly, she doesn't pull at my boobs so I don't have much of an issue.

@mrs. tiz, no the bottoms don't cut weird, they actually cover more than I expected it to. It's pretty darn full coverage. I bought two sizes from Amazon and returned the one that didn't fit right (free shipping!)

@adira, yeah it is. I tried on a bunch of inexpensive ones, but finding something that fits a large chest properly means you're going to spend a chunk of dough, so I prefer to just have two good ones in my closet :) I even went to one of those fancy swimsuit stores and they all fit weird (i'm just too tall for a one piece) so....whatever!

@Foodnerd81: very true to size. I wear a 32F or 34DD in bras and like the way the 34D/DD size fits. I actually bought a 36 D/DD last summer when I was still BFing and it was a little loose. Bottoms also fit true to size in my experience. I like the "high tide" bottoms because they suck everything in and I like the tankini-as-a-one piece look - I don't want to see skin between.

@MrsTiz: I have a Miracle Suit that I paid $130 for 6 years ago. I have worn the heck out of it and it still looks brand new. My cheaper suits usually only last a season. So I think it's worth it. And Athleta has a great warranty policy.

BUT - Old Navy has some super cute retro one pieces right now. They don't fit as well as the bra-sized suits, but they are super flattering for $40.

I'm not sure if you know who Kelle Hampton from Enjoying the Small Things is, but she wears a swimsuit veeerrry similar to that one and I LOVE it but wasn't sure how it would look on me. What shape are you? Would you say that holds in your belly? Thank you for that link!

Oh wow. I just realized how cheap I am.. I hate all of my bathing suits that are like $40, maybe I need to bite the bullet and buy myself a nice one!
@blackbird: I loove that, do the bottoms cut in weird, the side panel makes me think it would show a lot more of my booty than people want to see!

I think it's super cute.

My favorite suits these days are Miracle Suit one pieces like this: http://www.miraclesuit.com/miraclesuit/must-haves-sanibel.html or this: http://www.miraclesuit.com/miraclesuit/fashion-figures-rialto.html

Or the Athleta tankinis that come in bra sizes.

BUT (big disclaimer) I have a weird swim suit body anyway and must have lots of chest support and tops that come in bra sizes.

I like this look! Considering that the rash guard style is really taking off, I don't think of this any different than that. Lands End does a really nice job with the swimwear. I've been happy with everything I have from there. Just order a few sizes since sometimes it varies from item to item (you can always return to Sears). They also run good promotions and have coupons.

@blackbird: I feel like almost all tankini tops are very deep V halters-- if I'm swimming with the baby, I don't want to have such a low neckline-- it's like I'm asking her to grab at the top and expose my boobs!

I think it's cute, but I do also think it looks like a shirt over a bikini. I wouldn't think twice about it if I saw it on the beach though.

I'm also on the hunt for a mom friendly suit. I weight less than pre preg, but my stomach is anything but toned and boobs are bigger, so I want more coverage without being totally frumpy. I am thinking about a few different tankinis from Athleta, might order a bunch and try them all on at home.
ETA: This is the one I'm thinking about:
http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=94580&vid=1&pid=964875012

This is my favorite postpartum swimsuit. It looks amazing on (i found that non-ruched swimsuits just didn't look right, and I'm really tall, so I needed it in two separate pieces), and bonus, your boobs look great in this. The bottoms on this swimsuit are fantastic.

I wouldn't think anything other than, "I should do that." I've had two summers as a mom and realized that I was more concerned about practicality than having a hot bod. There was nothing more annoying to me than carring around an infant in a bikini. Last year LO was toddling around, and I even went for the swim skirt for wedgie-free chasing. Not the most fashionable, but it made life so much easier. Plus, I didn't have to carry around a cover-up, so it was less to haul to the pool.

@Adira: it's just a tank top, so you wear it over a bathing suit you already have..in other words, bottoms that make you feel comfortable! :) http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-swimmates-dot-adjustable-halter-cover-up-swim-cami/id_256233?sku_0=::ACD
