I have thin type PCOS and two kids.

Emotional recovery: No impact. No signs of depression or anxiety either time.

Breastfeeding: I had issues at the start with DD but they were related more to her latch than my supply. We went on to EBF for 16 months. With DS it's early days but so far BFing is going brilliantly.

TTC #2: When I got to a year pp with no period I started acupuncture again, which is how I had managed to start ovulating and conceive DD. A few months later my period returned (15 months pp) and we TTC the next month and got pregnant. The month my period came back I also got a work up at the fertility clinic to check my tubes, ovaries and hormones. I still had PCOS and they found thyroid issues too. We did cycle monitoring plus acupuncture to achieve my pregnancy. I lost that pregnancy at 8 weeks, which was unrelated to the PCOS. It took four cycles after my loss to conceive DS, who was born 11 days ago.

Birth control: family doctor advised on IUD and pill but we didn't use anything. Knowing about my PCOS, we took a chance on an oops, knowing it probably wouldn't happen that way.

I had an extremely low milk supply, probably because of my PCOS. The stats I've read say that 1/3 of women with PCOS have low supply, another 1/3 have normal and the last 1/3 have oversupply!
I didn't have PPD though I did have a really hard time dealing with the emotions around my inability to exclusively breastfeed.
I'm 4.5 months PP now and still haven't gotten my period back. (I haven't breastfed at all in the last 10 weeks, so I feel like it should be back by now.) I think it's probably time to call the endocrinologist again!

I did not have PPD/PPA, or much issues breastfeeding. My milk came in late-ish (7 days) but I also had a c-section, which can delay it.

I found that having a child did nothing to help with the condition. It probably also didn't help that my eating went to crap - I was STARVING from breastfeeding and ate so much convenience food (mostly carbs). I didn't get my period back for 16 months and when I did it was almost constant for 2 months (a problem I had years ago, pre-birth control). It only stopped when I went back on BC.

My midwife really encouraged me to try breastfeeding based on research it helps with ppd/ppa. I've been breastfeeding, and no ppd/ppa whatsoever. And LO is quite the difficult baby with colic and reflux. Additionally, breastfeeding is going well albeit I have an oversupply which chokes her. No clue if that's because of pcos. I specifically asked about. Keith control and pcos, and my midwife said an IUD was fine, and that in her experience there wasn't any one birth control best or that would hinder me from ttc in the future. She suggested I wait a year, and watch my diet and weight since it's hard for me to lose weight with pcos. I would say it hasn't effected my recovery negatively at all luckily.

ETA: I was borderline pcos when I got pregnant according to my RE, and my midwife said she would classify me as having it. I'm almost 10 weeks postpartum, and got the Mirena at 8 weeks. Not sure when my period would've returned.

I don't think PCOS affected my recovery at all. I had what I consider typical anxiety postpartum, never had issues producing milk, and got pregnant the first cycle we TTC baby #2. I'm not sure when I would have gotten my period back because I got a mirena 12 weeks post-partum.

I'm only 4m PP, so I can't say if my PCOS has affected TTC #2 yet. But I haven't had PPD, and breastfeeding has been pretty normal with some challenges at the beginning (LO was small, so latch wasn't great until week 2). Other PCOS symptoms I had before (acne, hair) have actually gotten better.

As for BC, my OB recommended condoms or BCP, but it didn't seem to be advice specifically regarding my PCOS.

I had PPD/PPA and was treated for it. However, I suffered from depression and anxiety most of my adult life so it wasn't shocking. I also struggled greatly with producing milk but I think that was because I wasn't super into it or passionate about it. I never tried to breastfeed I was going to pump only and I hated it. My breasts are also not real so that may have had something to do with it.

I went in BCP at 6 weeks so my periods were regular. My PCOS symptoms were worse after my LO. The acne, hair growth and other issues were horrible. I started seeing an endocrinologist and I went on metformin. I got pregnant without trying my first cycle on it.

I know I'm really jumping the gun here, but I'm curious :)

For those of you that had/have PCOS, what was your post-partum experience like? I've read a couple of things saying the natural hormonal imbalance can lead to a higher chance of PPD, issues with breastfeeding, or an extended time for your period not coming back. Then again, I've also read that pregnancy can "re-set" your body's hormones and that PCOS might not be as big of an issue for conceiving a 2nd time.

So, do you feel like PCOS impacted your:
- Emotional recovery
- Breastfeeding experience
- TTC #2

And, lastly, what did your ob want you to do about birth control between your birth and TTC #2?
