@Smurfette: @jape14: we have been using condoms but I don't really trust them. We haven't needed many since it's the last thing on my mind right now. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about waiting though!

I got it at 8 weeks pp. I think they did a urine test first to check for pregnancy. It was super easy and it's been over a year with no issues. I bought condoms in case we got around to dtd before the insertion but that didn't happen lol!

I have to wait for a period; my OB requires it to make sure I'm not pregnant again. I had a couple days of spotting and took one bcp the second day thinking I was getting my period but it never really came. So now I'm just waiting again. To be honest now would be a bad time to get pregnant again and we're almost certainly done but it took so much longer than expected to conceive our newest baby that we both kind of feel like if our one (yep, only one time so far) time unprotected resulted in a pregnancy it'd be meant to be. :P

Update: I've been spotting for the past few days so I called the office and since it's a short work week they don't have any open appointments. They will call me if someone cancels but I am going to be super annoyed if I have to wait until I get my period/have more spotting!

For other reasons, I don't really like this office so I'm considering switching.

@Finfan: Yeah, I definitely understand that! I'm pretty adamantly not wanting to be pregnant now as well. But it's not like we're tearing each other's clothes off so fast we'd forget a condom these days, so I'm okay with it for right now. But I'm definitely getting the Mirena when I get my period or we start needing it more frequently. Then hubby's getting snipped when the Mirena runs out!

My OB does Mirena at 8 weeks ppd. I'm actually choosing to wait until my period because I want to take advantage of the no-period time provided by breastfeeding and I'd prefer to postpone the spotting many people get when starting Mirena. So we're using condoms until then. Well, that and having a newborn/breastfeeding has killed my drive so we aren't in need of birth control super frequently.

@oliviaoblivia: Will your provider place one during your RCS? I asked my OB to do that, but she said they don’t if you’ve dilated *at all* because the % of expelled IUDs is much, much higher if placed before several weeks pp. Interesting how different everyone’s doctors are! I figured if they were already in there getting out a baby, the least they could do was slip some birth control in! :silly:

I had my Mirena placed several months after giving birth – I know that my OB will do it both at the 6 week pp visit and that they prefer you’re having a period when they insert it, but they will of course place it any time. I had mine done during my previously scheduled annual exam - no special reason, just worked out that way.

I'd do it sooner rather than wait for a period. I got pregnant at four months pp while EBF.
If you've had vaginal deliveries your cervix should be more accommodating.
