Yeah that is just not cool. I hope this person looks absolutely amazing and never has a bad moment out in public, ever.

Im normally the one hearing about things and thinking "meh, what's the harm?" but in this case I'm just appalled. People who do this, I mean, who the hell do they think they are? No, not cool. Not cool at all.

I think it's hurtful and I blocked someone over it. This girl would take pictures of other women's outfits and make fun of what they were wearing. It's just plain mean.
I don't think about how I'd feel if I was the subject of one of these postings...I think of how I'd feel if I saw someone post a picture of my mom or sister or anyone I loved and made fun of them. It hurts my heart to think about it.

I have mixed feeling on it. On one hand, as a photographer, anyone who is out in public can be photographed. That said, if someone takes a photo to mock someone then that is very tacky. I'm not saying I've never laughed over one of these photos but it doesn't make it right. I have some relatives who did this. I know if someone did this to them then they would be really hurt. I called them out on it but it didn't stop right away. I guess deep down they are just insecure/ mean people.

@Happygal: I think it's very mean and hateful thing to do. It's sad that people try to be funny at the expense of other people. Maybe she should put herself in their shoes, would she like someone unknowingly taking a picture of them and writing snarky things?

Sounds like a mean & hateful thing to do.

@pui: I agree with you. Taking depositions, conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, and going through all the hearings and such would likely cost a tremendous amount of money and take up quite a bit of time. I doubt most people would have the time or resources to bring such an action, which is a shame.

I think sometimes it can be funny and I laugh, but I prefer it to be an anonymous-style photo aka not including their face. ESPECIALLY not kids. Otherwise I feel like it crosses a line. I always wonder what if I saw one of my friends post a pic like this making fun of someone... and it was someone I knew. I for sure would say something to the poster, and maybe make the person aware too. So while they may give me a giggle sometimes, overall I just feel uncomfortable with them.

@mrs. Train: your comment made me think of Louis C.K's rant about smart phones and kids. Did you see that? Here's a quote:

"They don't look at people when they talk to them and they don't build empathy. You know, kids are mean, and it's 'cause they're trying it out. They look at a kid and they go, 'you're fat,' and then they see the kid's face scrunch up and they go, 'oh, that doesn't feel good to make a person do that.' But they got to start with doing the mean thing. But when they write 'you're fat,' then they just go, 'mmm, that was fun, I like that."

@Pui: and @MsLipGloss: no worries. All interesting points to read!

I think we've all had our moments where we see someting and internally, we think "oh, that is strange, it could be done better this way." It is one thing to think it to yourself and another to post it for all of the world to see.

@MsLipGloss: It's a little scary that someone could be held accountable for something based on such little evidence, but yeah of course it could happen.

Still, getting the IP and GPS records from these social media sites, launching a huge investigation where harddrives are seized and all this... still so much trouble and stress over a single snarky comment. I have better ways to spend my time.

@Happygal: Uhm yeah, sorry for the threadjack lol. We should probably stop. In any case I still think what your friend is doing kind of sucks and you should report her to Facebook.

I'm in agreement with most people that it really is kind of nasty behavior. For me it wouldn't be about that person finding it (they may or may not go to court) it's just not a nice thing to do. It shows bad taste and a nasty side to their personality.

It kind of scares me how mean people can be on social media without consequences. If you say something mean to someone's face you have to see the hurt on their face and might make you feel guilty. If you post a picture with a snarky comment there is none of that guilt. It might actually have rewards because people would comment on how funny it is. It just makes me a little sick to my stomach.

@MsLipGloss: IPs can't prove who used the IP. Only that the picture was posted from that IP.

Same with GPS. That just proves a device was used at a certain location. Not who was using it.

If anyone besides herself ever used the computer, you can't prove she put the files there. And even if the picture was on her harddrive, doesn't prove she ever posted it.

Very circumstantial evidence.

Of course a judge could still rule against based on this evidence, but it is weak evidence.

@Fronkinzankinsbride: She could claim she was hacked. Someone sat outside her house and used her network to post the picture on to her Facebook just to be a crap disturber. Stranger things have happened. The point is you can't conclusively prove that she actually posted the image.

It'd be great if we could hold everyone responsible for posting some snarky thing to the internet, but it is not feasible.

I hadn't even thought about the legal possibility of it! @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: there was a woman from the Wal-Mart site who saw herself on there and was suing. I don't know the outcome.

I live in a smaller town, so it's very easy to imagine that she is posting pictures of people others recognize as coworkers, friends of friends, etc.

@Lulu Mom: she's posted some obvious "whoah" pictures like that, but most are just judgmental....like she took a picture of a man who had his child on one of those by-my-side/harness things, and she wrote, "Dad of the year." The comments were equally as snarky. That's the other surprising thing--how many people chime in.
