A similar thing happened to me--I had postpartum bleeding on and off for about 5-6 weeks and then stopped completely. Then around 8 weeks I thought I got my period and was devastated! And surprised, since I'm EBF still. But my OB explained that sometimes a scab forms where the placenta was attached to your uterus. When it comes off, the bleeding seems a lot like a period.

Mine was super heavy for two weeks, tapered off but was still on/off until 4-5 weeks!

Yeah, mine came and went for about 6 weeks. But it is possible to ovulate right away (Irish twins....) and then menstruate 2 weeks after that.

hmm.. i had that question too... i bled on and off for at least 7-8 weeks before it completely stopped (i'm only about 12 weeks now), so i'm not sure if i got my period or not! i'm not EBF (supplementing heavily with formula, but still BF at each feed), which makes it all the more mysterious... i guess i'll find out if it was just a long post partum bleed, or if i'm getting my period soon enough... :)

@mrsmenow: My activity level and stress level did change last week. My father-in-law passed away and the bleeding started back up the day of the visitation. I've also been nursing a lot more due to a growth spurt.

I was just going to post a question like this as well, because the EXACT same thing happened to me. I thought the bleeding part was over for me after two weeks, but then around the beginning of week 4, it started up for me again and I even remotely thought it could be my period. I'll let my doctor know at my 6 week appointment but right now, I'm not freaking out yet. :)

With my first, I don't remember! With my second, I bled a lot more when I had an active day (including carrying my two year old around). I bled for about six weeks (even with a c-section).

Did your level of activity change at all over the last couple of days? My bleeding did this sometimes too and it usually happened when I over did it a few days in a row.

Yup, my bleeding was similar to yours. At two weeks the consistent heavy flow stopped. Then every now and then I'll get some light bleeding. There were a day or two later on that I would -TMI- pass big clots. These are all normal so long as the clots are not golf ball sized.

It wasn't going on this morning. If it starts again today I'll call them since I didn't think this was supposed to happen and I did have some bleeding issues immediately following delivery. If it doesn't happen again I'll mention it at my six week appointment.

My postpartum bleeding had lasted probably two weeks before it had completely lightened and was almost nonexistent. Around three weeks pp, it started very lightly again. I'm four weeks out now and sometimes it's like a light period.

Everything I've seen says menstruation wouldn't return this early, especially while breastfeeding. Did the postpartum bleeding taper off and start again for anyone else?
