@raintreebee: I felt great post-partum & went with my body & started a couch to 5k program about 4 weeks PP without consulting my doctor but like @blackbird, it made me bleed when bleeding had previously stopped & i became unsure if it was safe & stopped until I talked with my doctor.

@raintreebee: I would suggest a few minutes of stretching and breathing every day. You could even just focus on keeping your core engaged as you go about your daily activities. But you really should wait until you are cleared before starting any exercise.

@Corduroy: Very true. Mainly I am just feeling a bit cooped up with the baby! But you are right that I should take it easy!

@Zbug: Great idea!

@blackbird: Did you doctor clear you for the elliptical or did you just go with how your body felt?

I feel for you-I was on an elliptical about 4-5 weeks PP but not much else. It allude me bleed! If I did anything, I would be ok with some arm curls or tricep dips probably. Just trying to get up off the floor pp is tough!!!

Do you have any maternity workout videos? Those should be fine. If not, check on YouTube. I think you just need to listen to your body. I went back to running before six weeks, but it depends on your recovery. Or if you have other workout DVDs, you could try modifying them and take it easy/slow.

I worked out until my due date and wanted to get back to exercising early just to feel more like myself. I found gentle stretches were doable and made me feel like I was doing something.

Be patient with yourself. You have every reason to take it easy (recovering from birth, caring for a newborn, little sleep) and there's very little benefit to pushing yourself early.

I am slowly finding out that having a winter baby has some disadvantages. I had planned to walk after I gave birth as my primary form of exercise until I was cleared by the doctor to do aerobic exercise. But the brutal winter and the fact that my baby came early makes me uncomfortable taking him outside. Is there anything I can do inside my apartment prior to being cleared for more aggressive workouts?
