They were very absorbent! I never used pads in my teens, just tampons, so the ones I remember from my 1st period back in 1996 (!) were HUGE lol. The best part was that I didn't have to worry about getting any blood on my underwear and would just toss them when I bled through. A few days later, I would just wear the depends with no pads and then, when it had really slowed down, I used just pads. I think for me they just need the adhesive wings, otherwise they tend to slide around and leak. But I def start out with the Depends diapers. Annoying to wear but probably gives me the best peace of mind. </p> <p>And I totally feel you about not remember things! But I went to the ultra thins after a while and those worked great. I just always got really long ones with wings.
