I used extra strength tylonel and ibuprofen. I didn't find my pain too bad. I also used tucks and peri bottle. My worst pain was weeks 4-5 PP when my 'roids tore. Ouchy. I went and got prescription ointment for that.

@pastemoo: its a pain relief spray. They gave me a bottle at the hospital which was plenty. Spray it down there after you use the bathroom, it numbs a bit.

Peri bottle with warm water after using the bathroom and tucks pad on top of the pad felt amazing down south! Ibuprofen helped when the pain was a bit much to handle. Colace was awesome in helping move things along and pain free exits. Oh, and taking it easy for two weeks did wonders!! If I moved too much or did strenuous work, my pain level would shoot up like crazy and I'd bleed heavier. No bueno.

Nothing, I just rested. (I'm not hardcore- I got an epi- I was already taking antibiotics for an infection and didn't want anymore pills) The first bowel movement scared me a bit, so I waited 3 days until it was ready to just fall out!

Dermaplast (pain relief/numbing spray) - was a must anytime I had to ride in a car the first few weeks.

Tylenol and Ibuprofen (I alternated), ice packs (my BFF's!), and rest.

At home: Mortrin, ice pack pads, tucks, resting at a recline whenever possible. Warm bath sitting on top of a folded up hand towel as soon as I was cleared to do so. Peri bottle to pee.

I was prescribed Naproxen and if I missed a dose I was in so much pain. I was also prescribed T3's but I took 1 and felt awful - probably because I was so sleep deprived, didn't take any after that. Showering helped with the tightness because of the stitches and ice packs helped the first couple days. I will add witch hazel to my routine this time.

@pastemoo: that's exactly what it was. The "other" pain was gone, I can manage with this pain. Especially now that I have this squishy little newborn in my arms. :) For me it was ligament and groin pain. I was so glad that was gone!!

Ibuprofen occasionally, ice packs in my giant mesh underwear for a couple of days, and really limiting how much I was moving around. I had an easy recovery and was out for short walks within a week.

I was super nervous about the first bowel movement but I kept taking colace and it wasn't bad. Used the peri bottle with warm water and those soft damp cottenelle wipes. If you want tmi :)

I only took Motrin as prescribed by my OB and never took the Vicodin they prescribed. I also used dermaplast the first week or so and used the peri bottle with warm water. Other than that, nothing else.

@mediagirl: :) Mind over body. Cool.

I think I was so relieved with the reduction in rib pain that I opted for ice, pressure, and rest. I think the other reason I refused pain medication in the hospital was because I was so sure that it "wasn;t pain" it was "just really bad gas." Hah!
After 4 days (when I was home) I started taking the ibuprofen to reduce the swelling in my poor huge feet. I don't know if it worked or if it was the night sweats that helped my poor feet!

Tucks!!! AMAZING!!!! I used these because that's what they provided at the hospital and they were AWESOME!

And I used Ibuprofen at home because that's what they were giving me at the hospital and said was okay to use.

Otherwise, I just didn't move a lot! :) I felt pretty normal after a week and totally normal after two (vaginal delivery, episiotomy with some tearing).

I rested and took Tylenol. When I was in the hospital, they gave me the "better" drugs but they made me see double and feel weird and I wanted to feel normal so that I could hold my baby and not fear dropping her. I went for mind over matter and told myself I wasn't in as much pain...as long as I didn't move the bottom half of my body. :)

What did you do for postpartum pain?
Why do you think you chose that/those pain relief methods?

I have been thinking about it lately.
